Cats - August 2006

My cat is 1.5 years old. He is a neutered male.

Over the last 2-3 days, he has began sleeping a lot, and not being nearly as active as he usually is.

However, his appetite remains the same, and he is having regular bowel movements. In addition, he is not showing any other signs of anything, whether it be vomiting or otherwise. His eyes do look a little glossy, however there is no discharge from them.

Does anyone have any ideas?

I would take the cat to the veteraniarian, but I am very short on cash for the next week or so, and thus can't afford a huge bill right now (it costs around $500 at my local veteranarian to do a simple blood test + consultation).

Today my boyfriend cooked pork chops on the grill and as usual we always feed the local stray cats some of the food. We dont want to hurt the strays by giving them pork but they sure loved it. by the way I am a vegetartian

She weighs one pound (maybe). I bought her from the vets office. They say she's healthy, but I'm wondering. I could tell she was a runt, but she purred and came up to me with her tail up so friendly and the other one was too busy being crazy to purr or even notice me so I took the tiny one. I hope this wasn't a mistake because she's so lovable, but she doesn't play rough like the other kitty, in fact she barely plays at all. She tumbles down the steps and waits at the bottom like it's too hard to get up them although she did manage this today. I started adding some water to those hard nuggets they were feeding her because I thought she might be able to eat more and bought her some canned Friskie shredded food that is supposed to be for kittens and cats. She seems to like this the best. Her bowels are soft and in a pile but not formed, is this diarrea? It's been that way since she's been here for three days. Also, she has black gunk always outside of her eyes. Why?

My sister has a cat who hates me. He hisses and bats his paws at me anytime I come near. Supposedly, he was abused as a kitten. Is there any way to befriend a cat?

We already have one cat. I'm considering getting another cat. Will it be necessary to have two litterboxes, or will one be fine if I clean it frequently?

I have always fed her dry cat food...she seems to like it fine. I always wondered if I should mix it up...and give her some wet food too. I had a cat when I was a kid and we never gave her wet food...and she was just fine. Any advice?

He does this a lot - it just sticks out a little though! He just started doing this in the past few weeks (we've had him for three years).

My three-year-old female and my new four-month-old male have been together for about two weeks now. They roll around and bite each other, but there's no hissing or anything. The older one seems to pick more "fights," but she could just ignore him if she wanted. They're both getting a few scratches, but nothing serious. I don't know if I should break them up and separate them or if this is really playing. They weren't doing this last week, though! What should I do?

My two cats won't stop jumping up on things. They know it is wrong because as soon as I see them doing it they jump off, but they keep doing it!

Whenever i comb him, or better yet a bath! And also what are some good cat games because my cat always wants attention and/or to play but then when i wave something in front of him he doesnt go for it really?( if not just a little then just watches it because he doesnt get it or something so our other cat goes after it).

My cat has thrown up on our floor in various parts of the house. She has been meowing a "hurt" meow every time someone tries to pick her up. Now, she's been sitting under our deck for over 5 hours. It's raining, and she still stays out, not moving an inch. (But she did turn around awhile ago.) She is in a window opening for the basement. (it's closed, and has bars covering it.) What's wrong, and what should I do?

My friend just left for vacation and she left me her cat to watch for a week. The cat was walking around and wandering around the home, and when i went to go see him, he had water beneath his eyes? Could cats really shed tears when they are sad? What can I do to cheer him up? Thanks

I recently noticed that when I pet my cat, black specks came off in my hands. From what I understand, these black specks are flea feces NOT flea eggs. I've only seen four fleas on the cat so I'm wondering how bad the cat's flea problem really is? Anyone else been through this before?
