My cat is 1.5 years old. He is a neutered male.

Over the last 2-3 days, he has began sleeping a lot, and not being nearly as active as he usually is.

However, his appetite remains the same, and he is having regular bowel movements. In addition, he is not showing any other signs of anything, whether it be vomiting or otherwise. His eyes do look a little glossy, however there is no discharge from them.

Does anyone have any ideas?

I would take the cat to the veteraniarian, but I am very short on cash for the next week or so, and thus can't afford a huge bill right now (it costs around $500 at my local veteranarian to do a simple blood test + consultation).

keep a close eye on him for the next 24-48 hrs. you say his eyes are glossy, make sure they are not dialated or flickering back and forth, if they are get him to the vet, this is typical when a cat gets into something such as bug spray or other toxic items , cats are highly sensitive to bug sprays and such, if you feel he is not better within 24-48 hrs please see a vet and have him checked out , maybe you can check with other vets for prices because this is high for a visit and start up bloodwork....cats do sleep a lot, but for this young of a cat to change habits in just a couple of days is not normal so keep a close eye on him for ANY changes. chances are he is fine but dont take that for granted if you think something is wrong, better a check up than a sick kitty...................

You know what?! My cat was doing the same things just a week ago. Sleeping a lot, not as playful as he was, but maintained a healthy appetite and drank water. I was worried also, so I took him to the vet and they said it could be a number of things.

1) Sometimes when they get vaccines their bodies produce too much of the antibody and it actually starts to go into their joints, which makes them less active and increase sleep.
2) Feline Leukemia
3) Cat AIDS
4) If you just gave the cat a flea treatment, he/she could have perhaps licked the medicine and gotten sick because apparently, the medicine is safe, but the tubes that it comes in are slightly alcohol base coated, hence sickness.

This probably sounds scary, but I wouldn't worry about it too much because chances are that he/she will snap out of it. That's what the vet told me; just to watch and see what happens. If your cat has only been acting like this for two or three days, wait another three or four days and see how he/she is doing. It could pass by then.

You do need to get the cat into a local clinic. Since you are short on cash maybe call them and ask if there are any local low-cost clinics or if there is some osrt of payment plan you can do. There is also a program out ther calld CareCredit. This is basically a credit card that you only use in the veterinary office. It would help with the payments. Now on to your cat....could he of gotten into anything? Any sort of anitfreeze or rat poison? Antifreeze/coolant will not kill the pet instantly but slowly over time by frying their kidneys. And any sort of poison even though he might not of eaten a lot of it will hard your cat by stopping his body from making platelets (clotting cells). This could cause him to bleed internally where you cannot see. Also is he up -to - date on his vaccines and is he exposed to any other cats where you do not know their vaccine history? If so you ned to have the vaccines updated as soon as possible and have a Felv/Fiv test done. Felv is feline leukemia and transmittible to other cats by getting into fights and by body fluids. Fiv is kind of like HIV for humans, but on a totally different level. If these tests have not been done I would highly recommend getting these done as well. I know that it sounds like a lot of money, but it is for the well being of your cat. Good luck and I hope that he starts feeling better.

Maybe he is depressed. I had a cat who would get in these moods and I would have to keep trying to play with him and pet him and give him extra attention until he started acting normal again. If this doesn't work you might want to take him in for a checkup just to make sure. Is there another vet that you can take him to? Even if it's not local it might be worth the trip if you vet charges so much.

Hi..I usually noticed something is wrong with my cats when they do not have appeitte and hide in unusual corners..

But if your cat is eating well and everything.. thick he is just growing out of his active/ kitten days and into adulthood..

so watch over him for the next week, and monitor closely as much as u can.

P/S: a usual blood test and all here usual only cost me $100.00. I was shocked to hear of the huge bill that you pay!

cats do sleep most of the day but if you feel that this is abnormal behavior call the vet and tell them what's going on with him and they can tell you if the cat will need to come in and be seen or give you some ideas for something to do at home. Most vets will take a payment plan if you tell them up front.

There's probably nothing wrong with him, though I would keep an eye on him...if there are any changes, take him to the vet.

See if you can find a vet that charges less (or a sliding scale fee) $500 for a check up seems pretty steep...

Primary indicators of sickness in a cat are reduced or stressed potty trips and lack of appitite. If yoru cat is doign good in the eating and pee/poopin department, I wouldn't think there was an urgent cause for alarm.

I'd look for other factors, like temperature changes, fleas, or how much time you hav espent with him.

Maybe he's just in a lazy mood.

What are your indoor temperatures where you are? Maybe it's a bit warm for him, and he's just sleeping it off. Our cats do that in warm weather. If nothing else has changed, he should be ok. Keep an eye on him though, if anything changes, get him to the vet ASAP.

Best luck!

Umm maybe he just has a little bug or something. My cat goes through stages where he sleeps ALL the time then in a few weeks will practically be awake and outside for months!
