Hmmm, spoiled one-year-old male...new kitten...not a great combination. Make sure your male cat is neutered first, otherwise i can almost guarantee he will make the kitten's life hell. One-year-old cats (and dogs, for that matter) are like teenagers--they're grown up but not really mature yet. It would have probably been better if he were younger, but if you wait till he's older it will be even harder for him to adjust.
So, if you want to give it a try, first make sure that the new kitten has its own food and water bowls, litter box, toys, and even scratching post. That way your adult cat won't feel as threatened by having to share all his stuff.
Also, be sure to give your cat lots of extra attention, playtime and whatever special treats he most enjoys. Always pet and feed him before the kitten, so he will (hopefully) understand that the new kitten is not a threat to his position as king cat.
No matter what, expect some hisses, growls, swats and the like. One or the other may just hide for a while. It's hard to tell exactly what to expect, but over time they will at least tolerate each other, although they may never become best friends.
Then again, they may play like buddies right away.
Good luck!

I have 2 female cats and I had one for about a year before I found the other one at a shelter. She was spoiled too. They fought all the time for about 3 months but never really hurt eachother. It's been about a year now and they get along pretty good but they still fight every now and then. Just give them time and they will adjust to eachother.

Yes, there is a possibility that your other cat will be jealous of the new arrival. When you do get another cat you should take it to the vet for a health check. Check for felv and fiv also have a fecal done to check for any parasites in the stool. You should keep them seperate for a while at first, like keep your new cat in the bathroom that way they can smell/hear each other and then slowly introduce them together. Also remember to give your first cat plenty of love dont ignore him. In time im sure both of the cats will become friends.

I have two cats,1 male and 1 female. Although they are both now fixed, and I highly recommend it unless you plan to breed because it is good for their health, they now get along good. Both my cats I got as kittens, I got the male first although I only got the female 3 months later the 1st one was incredibly spoiled and didn't take, at first, to the new kitten as well as I thought. They fought like crazy and I was worried as I loved them both. I called my cousin for advice as she has 9 cats, and her advice to me was they will get along, they will probaly get into one big fight first to establish dominace, after that they will be fine, and she was right. You have to slowly introduce the two animals. seperate the two for a few days to a few weeks at first. seperate rooms, and let them smell each other under the door, take them out for supervised visits. when you feel comfoertable, let them be if they seem to fight, let them unles it looks real bad( and I have learned with my two, it is never as bad as it seems, they are just real noisy) My cats love each other now, sure they still annoy each other, but no more than human brothers and sisters do.

I don't know your cat, but what I would do is take him with you when you want to pick out a kitten, and let the kitten run around in a room with the big cat and see how they act together. If they get along, I would get it. If not, I would try to find another one.

is he fixed? i suggest thet you get him fixed first. he's still a kitten also, so introducing a new kitten will cause a bit of hissing and spitting and growling but they should get over it within a month
