He does this a lot - it just sticks out a little though! He just started doing this in the past few weeks (we've had him for three years).

I would check to see if everything looks ok in his mouth, look at teeth, gums, tongue. If you see nothing, next vet visit, mention it. Otherwise, if nothing else is wrong, assume it's his new trick.

There could be sores in his mouth that's hurting him. See if he is eating normally and if he is not take him to the vet. It also could be that he found a way to get your attention, cats are very smart and if they do something that you give him more attention too, like him sticking out his tongue then he, will continue to do so. No, but its kind of silly is'nt it? Anyway, I used to go play with the cats tongue, so my cat would stick his tongue back in. After a while he stopped doing it.

That is cute not weird. Grin. Sometimes they do it when they are feeling happy or good. I have photos of mine doing it. She even smiles at times. It is so cute. I think alot of cats do it. If yours is not panting when doing it then it could be just a relaxed thing or maybe a playing mood .
