Cats don't cry, the will utter a pitiful meow when they are confused or scared.
Are you sure the cat's eyes weren't watering because of something else? was it sneezing?
It sounds like the cat is ok since it's wandering around your house, if it were scared or felt intimidated it would be hiding under something.
Give it some time to get used to it's temp home, show it affection, talk softly to it, give it lots of fresh water, food and a clean litter box. Maybe even a little blanket to lay on and soon, it'll be ok.
Reminder, if the cat is allowed to go out, put it on a leash and please make sure you are with it and it has a collar with ID. Too many vacationers leave their pets with someone, the pet gets out, picked up and taken to a shelter.

Cats become very attached to their persons, and they grieve just like people do when suddenly that person is gone. I suppose that since crying is an involuntary response, it could happen with a cat. To cheer kitty up, try spending as much time with him as you can, if possible take him home with you, and just love on him, assure him just like you would a child whose mom had to go to work.

How sad. That makes me wanna hug the kitty!!! I don't know that they shed tears, but it does sound like the cat misses his mommy. If he'll let you, just try to play with him and give him as much attention as possible. If I leave my cat alone for a few days i try to leave a cheery channel on TV, like animal planet or cartoons to keep him somewhat distracted. And give sad kitty a big hug for ME.

if u are in Singapore..,chances are,the cat has been affected by the haze spell hitting the island,,like my cat have being,,and she was has being sneezing too, other then that,,YES! definitely, they Will cry ,when change surround,or owners,,,even if they don't shed tears, they Will go to a corner to mourn, and get sad and very very depressed, traumatised, which will take some time to recover,i know it by experiences with animals.,and once i had this female doggie who really shed tears!when scolded,,i was a teen then and i regret now,,although i was playing with her,

That's a good question, i want an answer myself. I had my cat in a cage once and he was crying and trying to get out with his little paws and his eyes were squinted and he was yalping, and i saw that his eyes were getting watery, so i bet they do to a certain extent perhaps, but it doesnt over flow the boundaries to go down their face... i guess.

I don't know for sure, but I know that cat's can be sad and lonely. Maybe he misses his caretaker. Just try to give the cat some extra attention and pet it for a while.

No, cat's can no longer cry tear using fact of emotions. in spite of the shown fact that, a chilly does reason the cat to have itchy watery eyes basically like ours so i'm particular it somewhat is why you have been seeing. you likely observed them once you have been giving him the drops using fact he became stressful and squeezing his eyes tight.
