Cats - July 2006

Our cat had 4 kittens - 2 males and 2 females. They are currently 10 weeks old and all doing quite well. One of the females, who we named "Scaredy Cat" because she is so skiddish and not as loving and playful as the others. She acts so weird sometimes especially compared to the others. We are worried that something might be wrong with her. She had a grub in her neck (removed by a vet & medicated) in which she got quite sick, but she should be better now.
Do cats personalities vary? We'll start to think she's sick and then she'll be playing normal and we'll cast it off until she starts acting timid and scared again. It's strange...just because the other kittens are so active and affectionate. She is definitely the smallest, the runt, of the bunch. This is our first experience with kittens - any advice or input?

my cat had kittens 13 weeks ago, the male kitten eats his food no problem but the female kitten will only eat plain chicken.I've tried mixing this with kitten food but she will not go near it.Even if i put tuna or any fish down she will not even attempt to taste it. Its almost like she doesn't like the smell of the kitten food and won't go near it. She is the same with dry food. I have just been feeding her on chicken and have tried starving her to see if she'll eat what the other kitten is eating but she just will not go near it. If anyone has any suggestions i would so grateful.thanx.

I live in a multiple cat home and I can't seem to find a litter that works like it says. The only alternative I can think of is to use a smaller amount in the box and dump it each day. Unless someone knows of a litter that actually works.

(I scoop twice or more times a day and I have tried Arm and Hammer, Cat's Pride, Tidy Cat and numerous generic brands and still have odor)

Any serious help will be greatly appreciated.

My 6 month old kitten is being castrated tomorrow, and I wondered if anaesthetic can be dangerous for cats? I know some humans are allergic to it, but can cats be too? I know it's probably irrational but I'm worried about him - lol. Any advice or experiences would be appreciated! Thanks guys!

My six-year-old female Siamese cat has been chewing off her fur on her stomach. We thought that it could be stress because we recently put our house up for sale and have numerous people come in the house which she doesn't like, but it has been going on far before that. She's been doing it so much that now her whole belly and under-legs are almost bald. I thought that all a vet would do is put a cone on her head which would just stress her out more. Any help or ideas are greatly appreciated!!

My cats fight a lot. Not (play fight) but really bad. Biting, hissing, & clawing... Could it be because they are both female? Or does that not matter. I was hoping they would keep each other company when I'm at work but it seems they don't like each other much. I've had both for a while it's not like I just brought one home....Also they are both fixed.

Both of my cats have this gross, black flakey stuff on their chins....what is it? Does it have anything to do with fleas? (they are both indoor, so i don't see how they could have fleas). It doesn't seem to bother them, but should I have a vet examine them anyway? Has anyone else had this happen to their cat?
They've had it for about a week.

Or at least that's what I think it is. In the afternoon her eye was fine, but a couple of hours later, I noticed that her right eye was a little smaller than her left. And she also had some tears coming out of it.
At the moment, I cant really afford to take her to the vet. Are there any over the counter medications or eye drops for her??

I'm going away for 3 weeks and because I'm new to the city, I don't have anyone to look after my cat. she's a year old and I leave in studio apartment. Is it okay to leave my cat alone for 3 weeks totally by herself with enough food, water and toys? Or should I not do that at all? I looked into some pet hotels and hospitals for cat boarding but they are ridiculously expensive. Please give me some advice!! I don't know that much about cat....thanks!
