I have heard that canned food is too fattening, but I've also heard that dry food makes them gain weight because it contains a lot of carbohydrates that the little meat eaters don't need.

I thought there were some great answers to my question and I couldn't decide, so I put it to a vote. Unfortunately, it's still tied two weeks later.

Would you do someone a great honor and vote for them as best answer ?? Would like to see someone get the 10 pts. Thanks

I have a 4 year old cat who sheds alot. More than my others, we have tried brushing her, and everytime we get enough fur to make a sweater... She is a bit over wieght, so i was wondering if it had anything to do with her health.

I got my cat neutered at a low cost clinic and the vet there told me that any dry food is fine as long as you stay away from generic. My regular vet later told me that science diet or iams is better than the Friskies that I feed my cats but he didn't say why.

They both have a hole in their necks and it is swollen around it. They have lost the fur around the area and it has a discharge. Physically, their are fine. They play with the other cats and each other and eat very well. I am told this is a worm similar to what a squirrel or rabbit gets. I am afraid my other cats will get this and I'm not sure what to do.

I've had my kitten for over 6 weeks and he's great. Now my friend went to teach in America for 3 years and I'm looking after her 1 1/2 year old cat. The cat is usually friendly but I think the distress of moving house and being put with a kitten who is so lively is stopping them getting on.

My parents have 2 grown up cats ,which she also had when I used to live at home with them. When I lived with them, the cats were both very attatched to me, they used to follow me around the house, sleep with me and keep me company when I did my homework. I haven't lived at home for nearly 3 years but I visit them about every 2 weeks or so. Everytime I go over to their house, one of their cats always comes running to me and my husband, while the other one doesn't even glance at us, but I give both cats equal attention. One cat rubs on our legs, meows at us, jumps on our lap, purrs to be rubbed and the other cat... well, nothing. She sometimes even hisses at us! Why does one cat recognize us so much and give us so much attention, while the other one doesn't?

I have a cat and kittens that got into the rafters of my garage through a hole. Do the male and female live with the kittens or just the female? If I capture the male and/or female, will the kittens leave on their own?

Some believe that free feeding of a cat will cause them to eat aimlessly and cause obesity.

Other believes that timed feeding will cause upset to the cat's stomach, and also cause them to over eat as they are left without food for long hours.

Seriously, which is better? Is scheduled feeding harmful?

I asked another question on cat people and one be the responses I recieved was that if a person can't afford to take a pet to the vet, they shouldn't be able to own a pet. I'm not sure how I feel about that. We are hear how manay animals are euthanized and how we should all adopt from shelters instead of stores to save animals and then I hear this. Now if a person can't afford food and shelter for an animal, then yes I agree. But I also don't think every little think your cat has deserves a trip to the vet (needless to say, any serious ailments of course). Anyways, if a person can't afford mulitple vet visits, should they be allowed to own pets or is having then euthanized preferable? I say at least aften being adopted, they have a chance.

The more I read the more confuse I get, so please comment on some of these points.

Dry food versus Raw food

Some say dry food is bad cuz a cat's natural diet does not contain any carbohydrates and dry food are packed with it.

Yet many vets still recommend dry food.

Also it is said that dry food may cause obesity as cat's natural digestive system are not made to digest carbohydrates, so these carbos gets stored as fat.

Some say even those holistic brands are nonsense with all their fruit and vegetable replacement for the usual corn and wheat, as cats do not eat vegetables in their natural surroundings.

So some claim that by putting their pets on a raw food diet, they maintain healthy weight, luxurious fur. And contrary to popular belief, raw food is not harmful to cats.

Alot of dry food claims to prevent tooth decay because biting on kibbles will wash their teeth, but raw food advocate claims when kibbles mix wtih saliva will get stuck and cause tooth decay.

my cat is 17 years old and up until now he has been in really good health- all of a sudden within the last two days he would be walking along and then his legs would just give way , or sometimes he would just sway from side to side (as if he was drunk!). Is the end near for my beloved mog? (p.s I am taking him to the vet tonight)

I get the most expensive, or next one and pick out the most appetizing sounding flavors, and my cat turns her nose up at almost all of them! No, she doesn't like table scraps. She does eat Purina cat chow, but not much.
She is very healthy looking and heavy, but I am sick of wasting money on stuff I open and then throw out to the strays cause she won't eat it.
I feel like they are putting something in it at the factory that is taking away or adding to the smell..I just can't figure it out.

Everytime we leave her out in the living room she tends to walk up to our bedroom door meowing a couple times, then waiting a couple minutes, she gets no answer, she starts scraping the carpet. When I wake up in the morning, pieces of the carpet are all over the floor. How do I prevent this from happening? I'm trying to stop her from sleeping in the bedroom because she's the "ultimate shedding machine" and I can't have my clothes all furried up. I wouldn't mind it if was my own house, apparently, it isn't!
