Everytime we leave her out in the living room she tends to walk up to our bedroom door meowing a couple times, then waiting a couple minutes, she gets no answer, she starts scraping the carpet. When I wake up in the morning, pieces of the carpet are all over the floor. How do I prevent this from happening? I'm trying to stop her from sleeping in the bedroom because she's the "ultimate shedding machine" and I can't have my clothes all furried up. I wouldn't mind it if was my own house, apparently, it isn't!

Get the cat something to scratch and sharpen its claws on like a scratching post...not too expensive considering the cost of carpet.

well my cat has not got that far to do that...but do you have one of them scratching post...i do not know if it would make her leave the carpet alone but it is worth a try...i do not allow mine in the bedroom either just because that is my private place..and she does meow but she quits after a while...i am planning on getting mine declawed when i get the money..i need to get her shots and get her spaded first...but i hope this helps some..i know one time when my grandson was here i put tape on her front paws...that helped a lot since he is only 2 years old.. she could not get the doctors tape off and she has been basically good since then..you may try that for a few days..and that may break her,,,i can give mine baths and everything and no one thought i could without getting scratched up..anyway this is some of my ideas..

The cat only wants to be with you but a piece of scrap carpet or a door mat kind of carpet laid in front of your door would protect and save your house carpet. Might want to invest in one of those lint rollers for your clothes too. They work great and are pretty fast getting hair off clothing.

Buy some cat nail clippers and keep them clipped short. Don't declaw her - getting that done on an adult cat is very expensive and will probably cause major psychological damage. If you aren't sure how short to clip her nails, ask your vet. If her nails are clear, it's easy to see where the vein is and just be careful with her. I have clipped my two female cats nails since they were kittens, and they never scratch up anything (furniture, etc.)

You can get this carpet spray from a pet store and you spray the area with it and the cats dont like the smell of it and stay away from it. I hope I helped!

Declaw your cat, this won't stop her scratching, but will stop the damage. Scratching at a closed door is typical gonzo type behavior. We could discuss other bad cat acts, but we don't have the space here!

It's a natural instinct for cats to sharpen their claws.Try getting a wooden scratch post from a Pet Shop and train her to use it instead of home furniture.
Good Luck.

Our cats scratch at the bed room door also. I suppose they want to sleep with us. Sometimes its ok. If you catch your cat doing something wrong punish them. I won't hit our animals, we have three dogs three cats and two birds. Of course the birds are to quick LOL but the dogs and cats I show them what they have done and scream at them. I guess they get tired of It or it scares them. But I do hold them when I show them whats wrong.

My cats do the same thing. I know this isn't very helpful but ask your vet. They might suggest declawing your cat but it is very painful for your cat, so try out other options first.

clip her nails
get her something else to scratch...we got a Turbo-Scratcher from KMart and our cat loves it...she did not like carpeted scratching posts
use the water in a spray bottle...a.k.a. "Bad Cat Spray"
