My DSH does that. She makes sure none of the other cats (or other animals even if you don't have anything else) think that they own any of her stuff. There are scent glands by her mouth and her paws so this smell tells other cats where her territory is. He just wants everyone to know what's his and that you are HIS person.

I had a Himalayan that lived to 19. and now I have Ragdolls. I think they think they are dogs! They behave that way.

Somewhere I read they are looking for snakes some age old instict that doesn't matter any more.
