Thats what cats do! They love to get on the highest place on the top and just watch. Ive never tried to stop my cat from doing it. I sometimes have to take her of the table though. There's nothing wrong with your cat doing that. When he is somewhere that u dont want him, take him away from that place and tell him NO

get a spray bottle and fill with clean water and use a sharpie and write on the bottle "Bad Cat Spray"
just mist kitty whenever he get on furniture or tables or counter tops and after a short time he will stop before you can mist when he sees the bottle then just leave the bottle on the table or counter top for a while then try to put it away and see what he does.

You can get a sensor that makes a noise when they jump on.....the couch, table counter, ect... just put it where you don't want them to go. And they do like being high so they can "look after" their territory. I pick mine up and let them look around... on the counters and places I don't want them.. works for me! Or get something like a ladder that looks nice and prop it on a wall for "them" they'll love you for it!!!

They make a cat spay, that you can spay on places to keep cats off. The discrete odor makes them stay off!
