The vet removes the reproductive organs threw a small incision on the cats belly. When you see her again she will be a little sore and tired. her belly will be shaved and you will see her incision with stitches. This must be kept clean and dry. Do not let animal over clean herself. Then there will be no babies after that. They heal quickly.Your cat cannot go into heat because her ovaries and uterus are removed

Spaying is a normal and perfectly safe procedure. (exuse the spellings) It is now caried out millions of times a day and is 99.9% of the time safe. I only know one person who has had their cat hurt in the proccess but that was down to an unquallified vet. Make sure if you are going to spay your cat that you know the vet and his/her reputation. Bad - go with another vet. Good - trust them. After that the cat will no longer reproduce, but will still come in to heat. So watch out for male cats even though it is not going to result in a house full of kittens.
And what happens in the prossedure? Is what Namooni said./ Exactly that.

Absolutely nothing, in fact your cat is going to be her old self in about a weeks time once the stitches is out, the cat will return to normal but in fact she will have an awesome appetite and you are going to have to watch her diet, in about a years time she will start putting on weight, but as i said keep her on a diet, now don't go and starve the poor thing, just cut down on the amount you normally feed her, and she will be more for staying indoors than out.

The cat longer can become pregnant. But if you are worried this will harm the cat in any way, don't be. The proceedure is prefectly harmless to the animal.
