Like when you see them outside, they fly in flocks that are shaped like an arrow.

So tonight I was holding the both of them and they were exploring each others beaks is the only way I can think of to describe it, almost like they were french kissing! The both seemed pretty calm, almost curious about each other. Is it a good idea or not to try and let them be friendly with each other? Oh yeah, and they are both males so no fear of unwanted eggs!

I love animals and have had just about every one (dogs, hamsters, fish, chameleons, worms, horses, etc) and was wondering if a parrot would be right for me. I'd be looking to buy a bigger breed like a Macaw, but don't spend much time at home on a regular work day. Would a parrot work?

I am in Jamaica, bought a number of budgies in September of this year, and i have since paired them all. I also provide them with a variety of seed mixes, fresh water (daily), protein food, cuttlefish bone and vegetables (lettuce). I have the one particular hen, she gets along with her mate and they preen and feed each other constantly. For a couple weeks i have noticed her cere turning light brown, then medium brown and now dark brown. Now its brown and crusty... i know when this happens in a budgie (hen) it means that she is ready to breed, but my question is: Is this also and indication of her being at the "AGE to breed/Mature"?

Well, not literally eat, but close enough. When I want to get him on finger, pet him, or feed him some greens he starts biting my cuticles; He loves to really dig in. Besides him messing up my cuticles, it really hurts sometimes. How can I get him to stop? It doesn't seem like he's attacking me, it seems more like he just enjoys chewing on my fingertips. =(
He's about 10months old.
Had him for about 8-9months....
I'm assuming it's a male

Sugar is my new cockatiel and she has a toe with gangrene. My mom (who has worked with human gangrene) says she will bite it off. It's hanging on by a little tendon and I think Sugar hurts all the time. I bought some anti-biotics for her at the pet store because theres no way she can get to the vet, but what can I do to make her feel safe and loved?

I have 2 budgies (male), one is three years old while the other is almost one. The younger bird pecks the head of the other one. This has only happenned in the last three months. They do get on 80% of the time so should I try time out for the younger bird's bad behaviour.

when i bought my budgie they said she was 5-6weeks old. She had no tail and couldn't fly at all. That would make her about 4months old and for the last month she has been very bitey, especially in the cage. When i got her she loved a head scratch and would snuggle under the collar. now she will hop up on a finger but not stay long - but only outside the cage - inside she bites so hard she draws blood and actively chases my hand. Any ideas?

He acts like he's afraid of it, it's just bananas, blueberries, chex, and some chicken. He won't go near it even though I showed him it was harmless. He only eats it when i stick his beak in it, i'm so confused??

What are the cons and pros of a cockatiel?

2007-12-19 11:23:45 · 24 answers · asked by Anonymous

I've had my parakeet for about two or three years. It's cage is large enough for him, but I feel like he'd be happier if he had another parakeet to be friends with.

If someday I decide to get a bigger cage, can I put the new parakeet in the same cage as the old one, or are they territorial like cats? I don't want to get a new bird if the old one is just going to beat it up.

I enjoy watching them - all kinds. A little chickedee surprised me the other day by staying 6 inches from me while I filled the hanging bird feeder.

I also make my own suet. The stuff they sell in the store is expensive & I've had the birds leave the store bought and eat mine instead. Proabably becuase I spoil them as when I make my suet I put in a can of fruit cocktail juice, some peanut butter and honey. I chop up raisins and cranberries and put the fruit from the fruit cup in along with the regular bird seed and sunflower seeds. I've also added corn flakes and cheerios.

I also will half oranges and grapefruits and when I'm done eating them I put the suet in there and hang them in the tree.

Have a Merry Christmas.
