He acts like he's afraid of it, it's just bananas, blueberries, chex, and some chicken. He won't go near it even though I showed him it was harmless. He only eats it when i stick his beak in it, i'm so confused??

Here's a good article on how to get a bird to eat his veggies. The strategies work for other foods, too.

I have a yellow nape that I have owned for 33 years.
He is very particular to his food.
He doesn't and will not eat the brightly colored food .
Some parrots just don't like it.
I would donate it to the humane society and go get him some new regular colored seed.. Try not to get too many sunflower seeds in the food. They would live on just those things but it makes them very hyper and they need the nourishment from other seed sources.
You shouldn't have to stick his beak in his food.
Good luck.

Parrots are very visual in their eating... they don't have the best sense of taste or smell... so they usually only eat what they are visually familiar with. Any new foods you introduce have to be introduced consistantly for several days in a row... possibly for a week straight. Once he sees that the new food has been in the same spot where he eats the food he's familiar with, he'll start to sample the new foods. He may even accidently eat the new foods when digging throught the bowl for his regular food.

Give him a bit of a small portion of the new food in the same bowl with his pellets/seed for several days in a row and see if he starts to eat them. Parrots also love baby carrots, broccoli and cooked sweet potato.

Good luck!

You should either buy him some other food or replace it with the food that it suits him.

Don't be confused.

Don't stick his beak in it.

Give him one thing at a time and leave him alone.
