Yes, I would. Try to find a bird that closely resembles your female and try to make it seem as less complicated as possible for your male bird.

You can get him another female or another male, if you don't want to breed. You might need to keep them in separate cages at first, or you might not. Use your judgment.
If the parakeet is older, you might try to find another older bird.

This is the thing about birds....

Could get another companion...but another will die...and so the cycle continues.

If you like birds and would like to continue having birds, then get your bird a companion.
