I am really considering buying a sun conure, I never even knew that they existed until I saw one at the pet store about 3 months ago. It was the sweetest bird I have ever met, it was really young, but had no fear and actually would approach everyone that came up to its cage and beg them to hold him. Then about 2 weeks ago I saw another one at a different pet store and it was just as sweet. Is this the norm for the sun conure? I dont know much about buying birds, all my knowlege is in dogs. I know to never buy a dog from a pet store, is it the same with birds? Also, the ones at the pet store cost between $500-$750 and I have noticed people selling baby ones in the newspaper for $200, what should I look for when buying from a private citizen. Any info would be appreciated, I am relatively new to the "bird world"

My cockatiel flew away at the end of September. Someone claimed he found him, about 10 miles away, and sent me a picture. They look mostly like my pictures, except for the mood of the bird and the lighting conditions. I'd like some feedback from you, so please take the time to compare it the pictures. This is what the person who found it said; "he has slight yellow under the gray and under the white on the wing trim and that’s very uncommon, he has a pied or lutino gene mutation from generations ago and you can see it was bred out of him with grays so its so unlikely that another bird would have that characteristic to show up in the same places." The links are below.

I mean really. I have seen tons of chickens, but never one in the air. Are their wings clipped or what? If I was a chicken I would fly away. And are there chickens in the wild? hmm...

I recently got two new baby parakeets. At first we thought they were really stupid because they kept falling to the bottom of their cage. Come to find out, they are not stupid, they are trying to fly and I noticed the other day when Padro was stretching, that they have their wings clipped. The lady must have clipped all the babies before she sold them. I didn't know this. I want them to be able to fly. Will their wings grow back? And if they will, how long will it take? I feel real bad for them because they jump off their perch and flap like crazy, but just crash to the bottom of their cage. Any advice?

I am also have a real hard time teaching them to trust me so they don't freak out when I am in their cage. I really love them and want to be able to take them out of their cage but right now, i cant even get near them. Any advice here would be great as well.

Thanks to all!

We are going to be adding an African Grey to our flock and have painstakingly narrowed down our choice of names from 14 to 2. Both my daughter and I love both of these names but cannot decide between the two. Please let me know which you like? Luna or Jia (geeah). Thanks very much!

Today, I was driving past a small man-made lake and saw this big bird. It was brownish-black with a red skin head. It had a yellow hooked beak. It flew in the air and I could tell that it was a vulture. I know that vultures live mainly in dry climates...but what would make a vulture come to Illinois, where it's starting to get cold? Also, can it survive here in Illinois especially as it starts to become winter?

I have a large cage. I have a wood bird house in the cage that my parakeets go into often. I want to put the natural nesting material into the cage so they can build a nest of their liking. However, I do have a nest that I have bought that they love to sit in. I just want to watch them build their own nest. Does anyone know the nature material that parakeets use???? Help me please. Thanks
