First to richbitch... most likely this women's macaw was domesticly bred and raised so keep your negative ignorant answers to yourself. If she left her specific bird in the rain forest it would die as he would not know how to survive. Don't start in on how birds should not be kept as pets... if you want to complain about that, travel back in time and talk to the ones who started doing it in the first place. Better yet, get off your butt and go to Central/South America, Africa, and or the South Pacific and do something about parrot conservation and strengthening the laws on illegal trapping and exportation.

In regard to your macaw... it could be due to any changes in your home or lifestyle. Can you think of anything that's happened lately that might effect him in that way?

Also, try changing his toys or rearranging them once a week. Sometimes our birds get bored with the same ole set up or same types of toys. My mini macaw LOVES to chew on wood chunks she can pick up and minipulate with her foot. Try getting her some foot toys to play with and bringing him out of his cage and play with him. Also, foraging toys are all the rage these days. Hiding favorite treats deep in side of toys where they can spend hours (or mere minutes, seconds LOL) ripping into it and getting the treat.

There are some VERY cool ways to make your own foraging toys pretty inexpensively. I belong to a bird board (the best on the net) that has a special section "Cages, Toys, Playgyms" that has tons of cool toy ideas. You can also find advice from fellow "parronts" who are owned by their babies and have great insight as to what might be going on. That way you don't have to deal with some of the ignorance here. See the link below under "source" should you decide to visit. Good luck!

It sounds like he's looking for more attention for whatever reason. I'm sure he isn't neglected, like you said...but like a child he's acting out to get your attention. Try setting a little more time aside for your boy and see if that brings him back around. I had a Severe when I was younger....and even with all the attention I gave him, he always wanted more. I think he would have been perfectly happy living on my shoulder....lol. Good Luck!

Please PLEASE do extra examine, formerly making that great determination. formerly you grow to be a mommy to any parrot, grow to be an authority on the breed.
