My cockatiel flew away at the end of September. Someone claimed he found him, about 10 miles away, and sent me a picture. They look mostly like my pictures, except for the mood of the bird and the lighting conditions. I'd like some feedback from you, so please take the time to compare it the pictures. This is what the person who found it said; "he has slight yellow under the gray and under the white on the wing trim and that’s very uncommon, he has a pied or lutino gene mutation from generations ago and you can see it was bred out of him with grays so its so unlikely that another bird would have that characteristic to show up in the same places." The links are below.

I think they look identical. I noted the white tip on the flight feather, same location in all pics. Orange cheek, same symetry, same over-all color markings. I hope for you sake it is your bird. Are there any other tell-tail signs, does he talk, sing or whistle a favorite tune? Is he right or left footed?

The one in the second picture doesn't look like the first or third pictures. It's extremely hard to tell "normal" grey cockatiels apart. That's why recording band information is important when you first get one.

It's possible it could be your bird. The only way to really tell would be to ask to see the bird "in person". If it's only been a couple of weeks, the bird should recognize you.

Don't ever give up finding your bird. You should check the "found" notices at www.911parrotalert.com and place a "lost" alert with them, too.

Two years ago, one of my caiques escaped and I never found her. At the end of that year, I came upon a classified ad someone had placed in the "Pets" section, selling the same kind of caique I had lost. I bought that bird and I swear it's the bird I had lost a year earlier. It accepted me as her new "human" almost immediately. The only thing that was different about my "lost" bird and the one I bought: The one I bought had no band, and that would have given me proof positive, but to this day, I think I have my bird back.

it is possible its your cockateil, however seeing it in person would help even better. i had a cockateil that flew away. it actually hung around our garden for weeks and weeks and followed our car into town and back. we finally mamged to capture it after weeks of chasing.lol it had been attacked by crows and didnt even look like our bird anymore, however our bird would talk and say some unique things as we are scottish. we new it was spike as it acted the same as her and sounded just like her.
you should go see the birs, you wont know until you see it. and somewhere deep down you will know if it is your bird or not.
and think about it really how many cockateils will have gone missing at the same time?
its worth a try and if not atleast your not left wondering if it was your bird or not.

good luck!!!

Those birds do look slightly different.

Your friend is also right about the yellow under the tiel. You do rarely get a true normal grey these days as they're all bred with other mutations.

Also if yours does not have, or does have this & the other doesn't then that is a very clear indication they're 2 different tiels.

It looks like the second picture may be different from the first and last ones, or he may just look a little rough because he escaped. I think you should visit the person so see for yourself, and see if the bird comes to you. Good luck!

No, they do not look the same. The orange patch on the cheek and the white on the wing of tc5 are completely different from the other two, and the head crests of wc9 and qj9 are different.
