My pet cockatiel injured his nail this evening. His nail got caught and partially broke off. He was bleeding quite a bit so I brought him to a 24 hour avian vet. The vet trimmed the nail, stopped the bleeding, and said to watch for signs of illness over the next few days. He told me what to look for but I was hoping someone could let me know what his chances of recovery are. He lost quite a bit of blood but seems to be doing fairly well otherwise. I am just very worried about my "baby".

We found and rescued this bird and it's the size of a finch but it kind of has colors like a racoon. Grey on it's back, white on it's stomach and black on it's tail. he has two black stripes on his head with a little white stripe in between them. He has a a small, sharp black beak. He's about 4 inches long including his tail. Is he a wild bird? Or is he an escaped pet? Please help.

My parrot, 25yrs., got caught in a mouse glue trap yesterday. When I found her, it was attached to her right wing as she tried to climb her cage. Severe trauma, loss of round patch of chest feathers, tail feathers, and some right wing feathers resulted. She has weakness, loss of appetite and will not let anyone near her, not even my aunt whom she is normally excited to see. The nearest vet is 80 miles away and due to illness, both the bird and I are unable to travel.

I need good advice in a hurry.

I have been given alot of info....none of which seems to be working. The cage she is in right now is big enough for her to stand up and turn around in, we had her in a larger cage but were told it was too big. Should it be big, small....no toys, toys, blanket, no blanket....newspaper, no newspaper...I'm confused and just want to be able to get her out in the morning without her being covered in poo & pee !

I want to know if teflon gives off fumes if it is used in normal cooking. I have been told that it isnt harmful to birds unless it is heated to a very high temperature. Also what about baking? Is it safe to use it in the oven at 350? I always put my bird in another room and close the door when I cook as well as use the stove hood vent. Has anyone had a problem when doing this?

We have a bare eyed cockatoo- s/he is 5 years old now. We haven't had it sexed, but I suspect it's a 'he'. Lately he has been fluffing his chest feathers. He isn't pulling them out, he's just twisting them around so they don't lay flat and his down is visible. I thought that they reached sexual maturity around 3 years of age. Given that we've never seen an egg- I've assumed he is male- as it is my understanding that a female will lay eggs even if they are unfertilized. But this recent chest fluffing has me wondering. Is this a female beginning to brood? I'm more inclined to think this is a form of feather picking. Once 3 years ago, we went away for 2 weeks and he pulled feathers out on the shoulder of his wing until he had a small bare patch. He settled and stopped when we got home and we haven't had a problem since. We went away again this summer for 2 weeks, and now this- although to be honest he started this slightly before we left. What's up? Does he just need more attention?

I'm getting a yellow headed parrot in a few days, it comes with a cage and food and everything, it's 14 years old and not tame. How do I tame it? How long will it live? How do I tell if it's healthy without taking it to a vet? It's a female (so the previous owners say), how much will it cost to get her DNA tested to make sure she's a she? Will she need a mate, or will she be happy without one? Please tell me everything I may need to know, and anything else you may want to share, such as personal experience or anything. Thanks in advance!

I have been interested in getting a bird for a long time, but i don't know what kind to get. I have never had a bird before, but I have had other pets and I am very responsible with them. I want a bird that i could take out of its cage to play with, and maybe one that would talk.

Please let me know if you have any suggestions about a good bird for a first-time bird owner.

He frequently changes which leg he's standing on? Is there a chance that he's got a fracture? Also he sleeps by hanging onto the wall. We tried preventing it but later he just goes back to hanging. Is he putting too much stress on his legs? Last thing. How do u make birds eat more things other than seeds?
