Poacher killed the linx when I was boy , only 1 kitten linx survive and I get it . It was still blind ...... I took care of kitten day and night and I can tell you that after about 1/2 year it was nice cat . It followed me everywhere like a dog , slept with me in the bed , never ever showed agression towards me and I can say it was a nice and happy cat . I had good times when I played with my linx . Over the years and I am sure it was not luck I had just one big scratch , but that was my fault because I did push a game to extreme and I still do not believe today that even domesticated linx must be considered a wild animal ...... Only my neighbour do not like this cat because he had on his property behind the fence some chickens , just to the time when my linx had opportunity to get in and test if they can fly ....... My linx proved that chickens can fly but they do not fly far because no chicken from about hundred survive this ordeal . Only chicken feathers fly like snow flakes ......

Pat K is exactly right. The chickens we eat, sadly, are bred to be heavy breasted and fattened quickly, then slaughtered at 6 mo. or so, I believe. These couldn't fly if they even had the space and opportunity, which they don't.
I have backyard chickens and the smaller birds fly quite easily--sometimes right over an eight foot fence directly across the yard into my hands. And they can fly up into trees without trouble, often prefering to sleep there than in their cozy chicken coop. My heavy-bodied birds, like cochins, mostly run like h3ll and flap -- thus sort of flying a foot or two above the ground. This is only when they're scared, or crossing open ground--they prefer to be under or near a tree or shrub. So yes, chickens CAN fly, depending on the breed.

Sure they can fly. When I was a lad growing up on a farm, our chickens would fly around the barnyard frequently it they were frightened, but they only flew short distances and were not exactly graceful. According to some sources I researched, wild chickens can fly much better, having no problem flying up to the top of trees to roost, just like wild turkeys. Domestic chickens are bred to be heavy for a fowl and simply cannot generate the lift to fly any significant distance.

Many years ago, I had a neighbor who had a whole flock of chickens, ducks and geese, all different breeds. He kept them mostly as pets, and for some eggs. He was not very good at remembering to get them gathered up and in the coop before dusk. In the morning, there would be dozens of chickens roosting in the tall trees next to the chicken pen. If they couldn't fly, then I don't know how they got way up there.

Chickens do fly, but cannot fly very far. No, they do not have their wings clipped. Domestic chickens, the ones we eat, are not in the wild. They have been bred specifically to provide us with meat, therefore they have heavy breasts, legs and backs. They are too heavy for their wingspan to fly far.

Perhaps in a cartoon, but in real life, chickens can't fly. The wing/body ratio isn't sufficient for flight.
The bird weighs too much for those little wings!

Yes next to a pig and right above them was a cow jumping over the moon. It was a sight to see. Chickens can fly but only for a short distance.

Hahaha that's funny. I don't think I've seen a chicken cross the road, but I have seen a duck cross the road :P BQ: I like cats and panda bears :] BQ: Nope. BQ: A deer. It's not weird around here, but maybe to other people.
