If your bird doesn't like being away from his cage for a long time, then just don't keep him away from it for a long time. Try leaving his cage door open when you're home (and can kinda keep an eye on him), giving him the option of being in the cage or playing on the top/sides of the cage. Put some toys on top for him. If this has been happening for awhile then you probably have some idea about how long it takes before he wants back in his cage. When you take him away from his cage, keep that time in mind and get him back to his cage before he starts acting up. It's not unusual for a bird to be attached to his cage.

On a side note, do NOT immediately return your bird to his cage when he acts aggressively, as Buddie says. This only teaches your bird that when he wants back in his cage all he has to do is bite you, so you're basically rewarding bad behavior.

Your bird is fine until he senses you are about to put him back in his cage! This is why he is acting like this! I am absolutely positive! You need to be consistent with him. When it is time, you get him and put him in the cage and don't let him get away with that! You need to show that little guy who the boss is!

When he bites your thumb, say "no" and immediately put him back in his cage every time! Cover it for 15 minutes then let him out again! If he does it again, repeat the process. They are very smart and he will soon learn that biting you results in his playtime ending abruptly.

The reason he is aggressive with other people is because you are his mate. He has taken to you and doesn't want anything to do with anybody else but you!

first of all, we need to know what bird type is this? A budgie/parakeet? or parrot or pigeon?
birds who loves to go out frm cage means they dislike the cage (is the cage very small?), or they really like and bond with the owner.
he starts freak out might be bcos of saw something moving thats freaks him out? some birds bite bcos they are playful (since the bites does not hurt).
he hates ur thumb? i dun understand, but might bcos the thumb is the finger that appear infront of him when u holding it? haha... :)

Am I right that he does this while you are still wanting to play? Not when you're getting ready to put him back, right?

We call that "beaking".....not really biting...just trying to get your attention. He's trying to tell you something! The hiss is his way of asking nicely, then the "beaking" is his way of saying "Hey! Listen to me!" He wants to go back to his cage! Just like you love to go out and hang out with your friends, sometimes you still just feel like going back home to your room. He's the same way. Plus he's so little, he probably gets tired before you do.

If you really want to keep his love and friendship, respect his wishes and put him back when he starts to act that way. That way you'll both enjoy the "out" time even more.

Both my birds do the same thing. One of them "beaks" me, and one of them bobs his head up and down first. Watch him and try to figure out his little jestures and body language.....it'll help your relationship. :)

PS: I just read what Rikko said. OMG!!! PLEASE don't chain your bird to a perch! EVER.

Try to put your feathered friend on a perch with a chain attached on it.. it would be more convenient for you and your pet bird... But make sure that you don't have cats roaming around before you follow my advice..
