I'm training my dog basic police K-9 commands for a project and I believe heeling is one of the most important skills to master. I've tried for weeks to get him to stay at my side. I've used the treat technique where you put it in front of his nose, but he just lunges at my hand. He is easily distracted. The only thing he can do so far is sit on my left side. Any advice on how to train him to heel and not become so distracted? I've tried places from the backyard, to my garage, to the park.

In March of this year I took home a stray cat. She's beautiful but she doesn't really like being touched (except when I scratch her back) and she definately doesn't like to be picked up. She's a pretty nice and calm cat in general, but how can I get her to be more affectionate? (She loves my indoor cat Kitty and he's the boss lol)

I am finding that a lot of people are passing their "opinion" off as the "truth" on the dogs section. With dogs I know there are experts that study dogs, but I must say until a dog can speak it is only an "opinion". How can you justify telling someone that they don't like to hear the "truth" when it is not the "truth"it is an "opinion".
Example: Your dog does not miss it's testicles (how do you know it does not)
Example : You should not be breeding your dog (now that is an "opinion")
How can you keep calling these statements TRUTH

She gets herself all worked up with loud noises, storms but lately I cannot figure out what is triggering the episodes. The Vet has given me sedatives but I really don't want to dope her up every night. Any suggestions on how to calm her down or and one know natural suppliments that may help?

He keeps flicking the dishes over and dumping the water all over the floor. I'm not as concerned about the food as he can eat it off the floor, but what about the water? Any suggestions on how to get him to drink the water without dumping it?

I have a healthy tank, and accidentally bought a upside down catfish that seems to have a little bit of tail rot but im not 100% sure. Maybe 80% sure... but anyway I treated the tank with Fungus Clear Tank Buddies and removed the carbon as directed. However it didn't say how long until I can put the carbon back in. It said to retreat after 4 days if necessary.

Does this mean that I should put the carbon back in 4 days if the tail rot is gone? Does it really only take 4 days to heal?

I am buying a Jack Russell terrier puppy (5 weeks aprox.) for my girlfriend (doesn't live with me by the way), I've already asked her parents and mine, i'm planning to give it to her on the 23rd December (24 and 25 are busy days). Since we're near the holidays, these puppies are running out fast, so I'm gonna buy it on the 7th, but my question is, should I take it home with me for him to get used to me (I visit her a lot so he will see me often) or should I let the vet hang on to it for me until the 23rd comes? People have recommended me to take it since it should get used to humans, but what if the day i take it to her house the dog has to get used again? After all, i'm only gonna hold on to it for like 2 weeks. (Answers with details please and recommendations, not just opinions)

My 21 year old cat started peeing everywhere about 10 years ago when we got 2 more cats. All 3 are female, fixed & do not get along with the others (even though the 2 younger ones are sisters). She was just marking her territory I guess. After she stopped for a while, she started pooping & peeing like she forgot where the litter box was. We have 3 (one for each cat). We brought 1 upstairs for her & she still only sometimes uses it. We have to physically put her in there every few hours. For the past 6 mo. or so she has been eating so much more than normal. We always leave dry food & used to feed them wet food once every morning. She's tiny now in her old age, but wants to be fed something other than dry food every 1-3 hours. Today she has thrown up mucus 4 times already & hasnt wanted to eat. I think if I take her to the vet they will simply contribute it to old age. Does anyone know what could be causing this sudden change in bathroom and eating habits? Especially the recent puking?

I just fed my kittens Royal canin veterinary diet , and that was when I thought I should double check the FDA website, and this is what I found. Apparently the update is from Oct 31 2007, so I was wondering if my kittens are at risk? What symptoms should I look for?

Here's the link.

Aaaaahhh! Is this behavioral? We let her out every two hours on the clock, give her praises and treats! She literally peed right next to our heads? It is funny...I know. I was just wondering if other Peke owners have had this problem? She really is a good dog?!

Okay, so, two days ago I noticed my cat was having trouble walking. She'd walk a few steps and then her hind legs would slip from under her and she'd fall. This is obviously abnormal behavior, so I took her to the Vet yesterday. The Vet didn't know what it was, but gave her some kind of fluid in case she had ingested something dangerous and told me to call him on Monday after the weekend.

Last night and today, however, she has even more difficulty walking, and even standing now. She can only move a couple steps before falling over onto her side. She's also become lethargic, though she's attentive and alert. I'm worried now, however, that she has rabies. I've only had her for two weeks, and she just got her rabies vacine last week, she could have contracted it before I got her.

Does this sound like it could be the case to anybody? As if that wouldn't be terrible enough, I'm worried about my other cats and dog. What would happen to them ifit turns out an animal in my house had rabies?
