I have had both, and I found both very loving, it would be hard to pick.
So I would ask myself, can I put up with cat hairs , cat boxes and kitty litter, taking care of a cat is easier than a dog, but having a dog is lots of fun as well, a life time friend. A dog sheds hair as well. if you are not allergys to ether of them, why not have both. Bottom line is I think I would pick a dog now, because you can jog and play in a doggier park, and a dog understands a lot of what you are saying to him or her, better company,, But I love them both, so weigh the pros and cons which will fit your life style better.
Good Luck

It depends on where you live and how much attention you can pay to a pet. I live in a 'no pets' building, so my pet is a hedgehog. She lives in an aquarium and she is very sweet. But for a 'choice' between a cat or a dog, I'd get two of each ... one large dog (like an Irish Wolfhound) and one small dog (a Pekinese, perhaps) and two cats, one male, one female (both neutered, of course ... and so would the two dogs be neutered). I just LOVE animals ... but I think I love my Tiggy Hedgehog BEST of all of the pets I've ever had!

I would rather have a dog, hands down, no question.
You never really own a cat you just feed it. No loyalty, no devotion. and what's up with that crapping in a box in the corner deal?
When was the last time you heard of a seeing eye cat, or a therapy cat.
Take a walk late at night, and see how long it takes a cat to chase off a mugger.
I could go on and on and on but my dog wants to play.

I would rather have a dog because dogs are more fun to have because you can play with them whenever. I mean cats like to be left alone a lot and you can't do much with them.

CATS.

I personally love cats more than dogs, but I can't have one because I'm too allergic.

I HATE small yappy dogs that are good for nothing! I like medium sized dogs like Shelties. and I really REALLY do not like large dogs. Dogs in general are unclean to me and they LICK EVERYTHING AND EVERYBODY. I hate dog slobber. They steal my underwear and breath in your face and let their poop be all over the yard!!! they are just the most disgusting yet lovable creatures.

Cats are CLEAN, independent, are there for you when you need them, are out of your way when you want them to be, are cuddly and sweet, and they aren't always HUFFING and PUFFING in your face making you gag from terrible breath.

For all you cat lovers who suffer from cat allergies....

you can get a cat for $2,000 that were genetically altered. (the gene that makes their skin cause allergies is removed).... but I don't know who has that kind of money!

well i would prefer a dog because the dogs are one of the best animals. A dog always be there for you either you kick him or you have a terrible day of work, the dog always going to be waiting for you at home because they are true friends. and if they are big dogs well they take care of your house inst ed the cats need to be more care full because the hair of the cat may cause you illness and you don't want that.

Cat for an indoor apartment or big house ... they're very versatile. Dog for a house with a back yard.
Presonally I like the cat's nature better.

I would totally perfer dog because my dog loves to play a lot more then my cat. my cat just lays down and she just loves to go outside and she isnt very playful. When I was home along my dog protected my somone was in my house and I heard my dog bark and growl and she never does so I came out with a bat and I saw somone and I called the cops and hes in jail so dogs can be very helpful. My dog saved me. my cat wouldnt do anything! My dog nows sit, lay down, up, come , and down. My dog listens to me and see never runs away now but dogs are very hard to train expecilly when you have to teach them how to not pe or poop in the house its hard but very worth it!!!!! So I pefer a dog! =) so good luck! have a good day!!

I would go for a non alergenic dog because if you have any friends ith allergies then they may just puff up like a balloon and some dogs dont shed and almost all cats do so preferably i would get a dog
