1. You could take a videotape of the puppy running around with a bow. Then at the end of the End of the video have the puppy go through different shots holding up different boards like
Girlfriends name (board one)
Merry (board two)
Christmas (board three)
I'm (board four)
Ready (board five)
New Years (board six)
Then have some helium balloons float up. Put the video in a box and wrap it up. If you don't have a video camera make a photo album of the same kind of idea.
2. Give her a photo frame and put a paper in it saying Present due (date of puppy pick up)
3. Tell her that you were late ordering your gift and it's not going to get her till after the new year. Tell her your really sorry and you feel like a jerk.
4. Take a photo of the puppy and have it put on a Christmas ordament from Walmart.
5. Give her a box with dog toys in it.
6. Give her a jewlery box with a puppy dog tag in it. Of corse don't get it engraved let her pick the name.
7. Get someone to make her a scarf that matches a little doggie outfit.

don't do it... no knowledgeable or responsible breeder would allow such a thing so it would be from some irresponsible back yard greeder or a puppy mill and they already pump out millions of puppies that end up in the body piles every year and you supporting them just enables that. If your girlfriend wants a pup she should choose one and do it at a time other than Christmas or birthday. It needs to be a WELL thought out endeavor with lots of KNOWLEDGE behind it... learning about the breed - getting a good quality animal or adopting from a shelter/rescue after MUCH evaluation and knowing it could cost thousands if a medical emergency arose - and they always do... Give here a stuffed animal or a diamond ring but don't give a living creature as a gift... it is just so wrong to do that to a dog...

I really don't like the idea of giving live animals as gifts. The receiver has no involvement whatsoever in the selection process. It's going to be their new furfriend, they should have the priveledge of picking one out. That said, however, if you're bound and determined, and you're sure she wants a puppy (seems like you have done some investigating since you got the parent's approval...that's good) why not put a deposit on a puppy from the litter if possible, give her a picture of the litter for Christmas, and depending on how many are available when you get to choose, let her pick the one she likes the best. Besides, I really think it's better to get a new puppy AFTER the holidays are all over. Too many adjustments at a very busy time.....

Take a picture of the pup and give her that on Christmas, letting her know that it can't be taken from its mom for a few weeks. Or if you want to surprise her with the puppy. Just get her something small for Christmas...like a stuffed animal puppy. If you want to let her know that she's got another gift coming but don't want her to know what it is, just tell her you had to special order something and you thought it would be ready by Christmas but when you went to pick it up they told you it would take another week or so.

Give her a picture of what kind of dog it is, wrap it up really nice with a card that say something like "hi mom!! I'm your Christmas present. I'm so little right now that I can't leave my birth mommy until New Years Eve. I can't wait to meet you".
You might think it's corny but that's along the lines of something I would do.
Who are these people that go through a whole question/answer list and give thumbs down to everyone across the board??? As someone obviously did here...twice

You could take a picture of the puppy and wrap it in a box. or you could take a picture of all the puppies and let her pick one,or you can take her to see it after she opens her gift box, put a special little note in there as well. You could try this. Any way have a Merry Christmas, and Good luck.

one, if you are uncertain about what kind, i wouldn't buy a dog. Alot of research into the breeder needs to be done, you have to and should meet the parents. I would not do that. What about adopting a puppy that NEEDS a home? I have an adoption page with 5+ puppies that are looking for homes or they will be euthanized on 12/6 (put down). they range from 11 wks to 6 mths and are all good little puppies. please check it out at www.dogzfirst.com. It's better to save a life than to buy one!

You could even ask the breeder if it would be okay to bring your girlfriend over to see/play with the puppy around Christmas. Wouldn't hurt to ask.

What I would do is just continuously give her dog things, for example, a dog bowl, dog blanket, ect. Since she would probably think you got it for her other dogs, she will be greatly surprised and delighted when you give the puppy to her on New Years. She'll probably be smacking her head that she didn't get it before!
