he is 3 years old and was a shelter dog. i know there has to be a way of teaching him not to take stuff off the counters or out of the garbage, even when noone is around to stop him, WITHOUT crating him or having to put him outside. and please, no abvious answers like "dont leave stuff out." i would like a solution to the problem, not just a cover for it. thanks!

I'm just curious as to what other people may have done. Personally, I would want to call the police, but again I'm just curious at what you all think... Poor doggies...

Just my opinion, but if I was a small animal vet and knew that the pet store was getting puppies from Missouri when the store's in NY, I wouldn't give them a health certificate for the pup.

So do you think if the vets would stand up and not support the pet stores, it would dry up the market somewhat?

AND, if you knew a vet was doing the certificates for a store selling puppies from hell, would you still use them as a vet? (And yes, in this small town we do have one, and we did stop using her, and told her why. Her answer? "It's good money, and I get a lot of repeat work." Well of course she does, they're all genetic messes and illnesses waiting to happen!

ok so my brother has a 14 yr old terrier dog, she has had diabetes for the last 2 years however she has been ok during this time as they have just about managed to regulate her blood sugar levels. she is now pretty much blind and walks into things a lot and pees on the floor almost daily. last wk she developed an ulcer on her eyeball and has had to have eye drops every 2 hours which means my brother or his gf have to leave work to come home and do this. they dont mind which is fair enough but i just feel the time is right to have their dog put down. the vet suggested removing her eyeball if the ulcer doesnt improve, which it doesnt seem to be but my brother said he wouldnt put the dog through this at her age. i speak to my bro daily and i just feel its time to relieve the dog of her pain and have her put down but he doesnt want to. i know its an awful thing to have to do.. but surely u have to think of the animals pain and suffering 1st? what do u think? any1 had a similar predicament?

... while also working full time?
I have the option of adopting a puppy from the local pet rescue place.
I work 9 till 5, Mon-Fri but I am home every evening and every weekend.
Yes, I have considered an older dog - but I am really keen on getting a young dog/puppy.
I can easily get 2 weeks of work to help her settle in and learn the ropes.
I want to hear stories on how people raised a puppy as well as keeping their jobs.
The last thing I want to do is crate train her, so if you have OTHER options I'd love to hear them.
Thanks.

I bought a Queen Elizabeth Pocket Beagle on October 27th and the agreement was that I was to go to her house to pick her up in Virginia. I live in Pennsylvania. I drove down there and she changed the pick-up to where her son would drop the puppy off at a gas station. I got suspicious but after driving so long I went with it. This dog came with no papers, was dirty, smelled horrible, and had hookworms and roundworms. Neither the breeder nor her son could tell me anything about her history (shots, food, temperament, toys, etc.). I was so mad I called the dog law officer in Virginia to have her investigated and haven't heard anything back from them. What else can I do to get this woman out of business?

My bichon is 10 months old and is super whiney. It is seriously the most irritating noise ever. The worst is when I am trying to sleep. He will sleep downstairs in his kennel and will whine all night. And it is so high pitched you can hear it upstairs.
I can deal with it, but it is worse at my fiances house because he sleeps in a kennel on the same floor. I'm not a light sleeper but we end up having very sleepless nights when I and my dog sleepover. We tried putting a blanket over his kennel so he wouldn't see anything. Didn't work. We moved him to another room. DIdn't work. Tried putting treats in his kennel to keep him busy. Didn't work.

What do I do to end this madness??

My puppy was throwing up today, and he threw up alot. I wasn't in the house when it happened but I came home to find 10 puddles of vomit on the floor. He's up to date on all his shots. Earlier today he was eating some of my other dogs food (he's a maltipoo and my other dogs a golden retreiver). Could eating his food have cause him to vomit? He stopped vomiting and is eating and drinking so I think he's OK.

do you trust your dogs opinion when it comes to people? i had a mate that my dog never really liked, he would visit us regulary, and my dog never went to greet him like she did with every body else, she wouldnt get nasty with him just keep away from him, we asked him if he accidently had hurt her but he said no. any how years later this mate of mine came onto me when my husband went out, and my dog lept into action to protect me, not that i needed protection, but she let him know she didnt like him by growling and putting her hair up, that mate doesnt come around any more, i should have paid more attention to my dogs behaviour back then, she was telling me he was no good, any body else have a dog that lets you know who to trust?

What should you do with your puppy the first few days (like 1-3) your puppy is home? What about during the first 2 weeks? My family has had a dog before, but i was little then. Now, I'm going to be the primary caretaker for our next dog (which we may be getting withing the next month or two!), and am just curious on what to expect.

My cat was recently diagnosed with feline leukemia. She was at the vet for a check up and she tested positive. The vet said it most likely came from her mother that had might have had it. She has never been sick and stays inside now. The vet said it might or might not affect her quality of life or life span. I have read up a little and she doesnt exhibit anything characteristics to look out for.

Has anyone here ever had a cat that has had FL? What should i watch out for in the future?
