I recently got a 55 gallon tank and I think I want to make it fresh water. My water has high ph about 8.0 and I think I want aggresive fish maybe live eaters. any ideas?

I think you should defiantly go with African cichlids, they are colorful and aggressive. With the size tank you have I would go with the smaller Malawi Mbunas, They don't get as large as some of the other African cichlids (Frontosas) so therefore you will be able to keep more of them and make it more interesting to watch.

With that pH,you could easily keep Rift Lake Cichlids. But don't go for the "mixed Africans" in the junk pet stores. Look up some of the Tanganyikan fishes, like Julidochromis(several varieties),or Lamprologus,Neolamprologus,or if you'd like something in a goldfish disposal try 1 or 2 "Frontosas" they are sort of a big black and white striped African answer to the Oscar.
No doubt researching these fish will lead you to a lot more from this lake, personally I think it's much more interesting than Malawi. See what you think.

I second that...African cichlids would do well with your tank size and ph. I'd stay away from feeding a fish live feeders though. Unless you plan on breeding your own feeders; pet store feeder fish are chock full of bacteria, parasites, algae, etc. that will very easily spread to your tank and cause all kinds of problems.

You might try African Cichlids. The PH is right and they are aggressive and offer a wide range of colors.

Here is a good site to find info on them.

Good luck and have fun

Since your pH is already 8.0, I would definetely go with african cichlids since it's better for them on there than any other cichlids.

Cichlids are certainly agressive, as well as being quite colorful.
