My bichon is 10 months old and is super whiney. It is seriously the most irritating noise ever. The worst is when I am trying to sleep. He will sleep downstairs in his kennel and will whine all night. And it is so high pitched you can hear it upstairs.
I can deal with it, but it is worse at my fiances house because he sleeps in a kennel on the same floor. I'm not a light sleeper but we end up having very sleepless nights when I and my dog sleepover. We tried putting a blanket over his kennel so he wouldn't see anything. Didn't work. We moved him to another room. DIdn't work. Tried putting treats in his kennel to keep him busy. Didn't work.

What do I do to end this madness??

For those of you thinking I'm a horrible person for kenneling my dog. It is because he is not housebroken. Unless you would like to come over and clean up pee and poop all day, he will stay in his kennel until he is housebroken.

caging an animal is absolutly ok to a certain extent DONT GIVE IN this is a puppy stage i recommend earplugs and a timer to let him go to the bathroom for the first week or two dont worry the stage will pass over time the dog will learn to love his kennel the cage is like their den my dog likes to napduring the day in her kennel when she roams around the house not to mentions its a safe place from our 6 month old nosy kitten plus the crate will be useful on long car trips dont give in and wait it out also dont let the dog sleep in your bed untill hes crate trained otherwise say goodbye to your bed because you will end up sleeping on the floor. its your house your rules your the boss not the dog.

Don't leave the poor thing in a kennel. I've never put my dogs in a kennel & they're such good dogs. It's cruel to put any animal in a kennel. I've recently rescued a Bichon that was put in a kennel all day while the previous owner worked. He didn't want him to be caged anymore so he gave him to me. The dog is so happy to be with people now because he didn't have that before. He sleeps on me as close as he can get to me. Don't cage the poor thing, that's not a good life for him.

Put the crate in your room or let him sleep in his bed on your bedroom floor. A bichon is a companion dog, needs to be near you.

If he will get ample excercise and concentration then there would be anything mistaken with him and will have to see a vet. He won't whine if he's with you and he in most effective lonely the leisure of the time.

What happens when you let him out?
He probably wants to be sleeping at the foot of the bed.
