Either get all males, all females or one male to 3-4 females if you want to avoid fighting. You can keep most tropical community fish with them. Other livebearers such as mollies, platys and swordtails are good tank mates but stay away from nasty finpickers like barbs.

There is a rule stating 1 male for every 2 or 3 females you have. So if you have 9 male, you should have (9 x 3) 27 female, or (9 x 2) 18 female. Get it? You can add other fish but nothing too big that will eat the guppies. Here is some fish info directly off of a web site...

Make sure you own a bare bottom tank. It should be at least 5 gallons, but it's better to have 10 gallons of water or more.
Make sure that there are box filters in your tanks, containing marbles and/or dolomite and filter floss.
Change about 20% to 40% of your water every 2-4 weeks, siphoning the debris from the bottom of the tank. The water should be aged or treated with a chlorine/chloramines remover if you have these chemicals in your water supply (if you're no sure, treat anyway).
The pH of the water should be in the range of 7-8
Make sure that you treat the water with a dechlorinator. For more info go to www.fishlore.com
The temperature should be between 66-84 degrees farenheit.
The guppies should get 10-12 hours of light a day. So, it would be economical to buy a timer for the light.
Don't overcrowd your guppies, around 1 adult per two-three gallons of water is acceptable (fry should be reared in seperate tanks or in the main tank with a divider. If you keep the parents and the fry together the parents will eat the fry.
For food, any kind of tropical fish food is acceptable, but should be mixed with a diet of frozen foods including bloodworms, tubifex and brine shrimp at least three times a week.

Good luck ;)

Hi,
I have guppies at home and they do fine. Get 1 male guppy for every 2 females. In a 20 gallon tank you can probally fit 10-15 guppies or more. In the store they are filled with guppies in one 10 gal fish tank. So a 20 gal fish tank get as mucuh guppies as you want. Also if you have more guppies in a small fish tank the view is better and it would look nicer. That is because you can see all the pretty colours swimming around your fish tank. If you want guppies than what you need is a breeding trap. Breeding traps are good if you want to have baby guppies, because all the female guppies in the store are always, always pregnant.

I would reccomend breeding traps because if your guppy had babies the babies will fall through the v- insert and away from the mother. The mother will try to eat the babies because shell be hungry giving birth.
Also guppies are really easy to breed!
Good Luck

Keep the temperature between 64-82°F and the pH level between 5.5-8.0. A 20-gallon tank can hold up to a total of 15 fish.

Guppies swim in groups of 6 (i.e, 2 males and 4 females). If you want an all guppy aquarium, you would need 5 males and 10 females. The males are smaller in size, have brighter coloration, along with a bigger tail fin, and pointed anal fin. The females are larger in size with a duller coloration, have a rounded anal fin, as well as a pregnancy patch on the lower portion of the body.

If you want a mix of fish, guppies are compatible with: Angelfish, Betta, Corydoras Catfish, Danios, Discus, Hatchets, Killifish, Minnows, Mollies, Platies, Plecostomus, Rainbowfish, Rasboras, Swordtails and Tetras. Check the link below to help you find the tank requirements for each of these species before you go out and purchase any tankmates.

You can just get males if you wish. If you buy females, make sure to get more females than males. Otherwise the females would be harassed to death. Guppies breed easily, so be prepared if you mix females and males.

Guppies do best in a tank set-up just for them. A tank filled with fancy guppies and plants is best. If you want to mix them with other fish choose other small peaceful fish. Some examples of small fish that are compatible with guppies are Neon Tetra, Harlequin Rasbora, Platys, Red Eye Tetra.

Males on their own will be just fine. If you get even one female you will have guppies for the rest of your life. Three guppies are good - they are very social and do better in groups.

You can mix most peaceful community fish with guppies. You could get a school of tetras or cory cats to round out the tank. You could even do an all guppy tank. I think that would look very nice.

Good luck!

For every male Guppy you should have 2-3 female Guppies. But if you don't want them mating you can go with a few males. Remember that males a more colourful than females.

If you want lots of guppies, then I would get males and females. Males and females together aren't a neccesary thing. Yes, 3 males will be fine.

For other types of fish, I would recommend a couple schools of neon tetras, phantom tetras and emperor tetras. It would be awesome to have a tank like that.

If you are breeding, 1 male to 3 females to make them happy. Too many males will cause constant harassment of the females.

I own a 20 gallon, but I have 6 females and one male. I might get one more male. They seem to be happy now, though. I have other fish too. (neons and zebras)
