He keeps flicking the dishes over and dumping the water all over the floor. I'm not as concerned about the food as he can eat it off the floor, but what about the water? Any suggestions on how to get him to drink the water without dumping it?

The BiteNot was a wonderful idea, however he is wearing the cone so he can not scratch at his eye, not so he can't bite at himself like they are most used for... He had surgery on his eye a couple of days ago and has stiches. He has to wear it for about 2 weeks (providing the Vet says its all good to remove after that time).

My sympathy! This is tough. i hope he doesn't have to wear it long?
You could try a "no tip" dish. Likely you will have to hold a dish of water for him, though. Or, try wet food so he won't need separate water. If he gets canned food, use that, or if he gets only dry, put some hot water on it and wait til it soaks in and then offer it to him. You can even roll it in little meatballs and let him eat it off your hand.
Any leftovers will have to go in the fridge; once wet, it will grow nasty germs.

A healthy goldfish can easily live for 2 weeks (or more) with NO food. DO NOT risk the feeder blocks. All you are doing is dropping in a weeks worth of food, and leaving. If it pollutes the water, no one is there to clean up the mess, and the fish dies. If you just leave fish with no food, the water stays clean, and you come home to a hungry, and at least still healthy fish. Ian

Ask your vet if you can have a soft collar. my kitten had the same issues because they gave her a hard plastic e-collar to wear. i had to buy a soft collar from them but it was only $12 and the best investment. the only issue with the soft collar, is because it is like a stiff cloth, sometimes she was able to step on it & do a somersult. but she got use to it & quit making a mess with her food & water.

use a few bricks (or something of the like)to prop the bowls up. You need to obviously have clearance 360 degrees at the angle that your cat eats around the bowl.

You can also take the collar off while he eats and drinks, provided you stay there to make sure he won't go at the stitches.
