first thing I'm gunna say is stop worrying about your horses death and enjoy the time he has now.
then I'm gunna say start posting horse-related questions in the "pets>Horses" section because you will get better answers...

I have known many horses, all different breeds that lived into their 40's. take good care of him and ENJOY it. if hes happy hell live a nice long life [=

However, I have heard of Quarter Horses living into their late 20s and early 30s, with a few really exceptional horses reaching 40.

My sister bought a retired barrel racing quarter horse when he was 22, she's had him10 years now and he's still going strong.
