I have a healthy tank, and accidentally bought a upside down catfish that seems to have a little bit of tail rot but im not 100% sure. Maybe 80% sure... but anyway I treated the tank with Fungus Clear Tank Buddies and removed the carbon as directed. However it didn't say how long until I can put the carbon back in. It said to retreat after 4 days if necessary.

Does this mean that I should put the carbon back in 4 days if the tail rot is gone? Does it really only take 4 days to heal?

As Fishlover suggested, you in basic terms remove the carbon cartridge from the filter out, no longer turn off the filter out itself. yet i might want to wish to ask you some questions. because that I have got here around the finished treatment for tail rot to nonetheless be ecosystem, specially sparkling water, i imagine the drugs could in basic terms be used as a very last motel. to boot, because you've been probable bought an antibiotic, it is going to also kill the constructive micro organism on your tank, which will wreck your cycle. It gained't take it as lengthy to recycle because the first time you went by ability of it, even though it is going to nonetheless take time till this is finished. i want to ask inquiries to make certain the reason for the tail rot. without looking the reason, even if in case you prevail in curing it with meds, it may basically come lower back back. the first question is what's the present water high quality? What are the ammonia and nitrite ranges especially? If those are extreme, then there remains problems with both the cycle or the upkeep and that could be what's causing the tail rot. once you do your weekly water ameliorations, do you vacuum the gravel mattress? Are there hiding places on your tank? the significant reason for tail rot is undesirable water high quality. the subsequent in line is stress. those are both issues we are able to do some thing about. sturdy success such as your fish.

The reason you removed the carbon filter was because carbon has a nasty habit of removing the medication. I have a betta splendens and he had tail rot...it's a massively difficult thing to get rid of!
I went to Bettatalk.com... I know you have an upsidedown catfish, but this site'll help you with methods for cleaning out the tank and making sure it's safe for your fishy.
Also I've found that there's a product with Jungle in the name, can't remember it exactly, but it works really well and they make different ones for the different kinds of fish out there.
Keeping your tank impeccible will also help in his recovery...also you have to make sure that he has no other underlying illness and that his tank is proper temperature because that'll help his immune system stay as strong as it can be.

Good luck!

i would wait and see if the fish has the rot going away and if it's not it will probably die if you don't do something. I would put the carbon back in after he has healed so you know it wont happen again and then you won't have to go through the whole cycle again.
