I had several guppies and a couple of other small fish that the fish store told me were compatible with guppies..last night we had just two fish left and one died during the night, so now there is just one fish alone in the tank (not a guppy, I can't remember the name). I put a mirror up next to the tank for now but will he be happy with just that? We don't want to get another fish because we didn't want to have fish anymore after these guys, but I don't want him to be lonely either, so would it be better to find a home for him that has other fish (that would make me sad too but if we have to, we have to)? Any other suggestions?

I purchased a Black Great Dane puppy who has been diagnosed with inherited HD and third eyelid eversion - The vet told me to contact the breeder - I paid alot of money for this show quality puppy and we love him now. The breeder doesn't respond to emails.

I bought a flea comb and treated the house. I'm concerned because although he's gotten much better, his fur hasn't grown back where it fell out and he still has some bumps and itches. What could be causing this? We bought a special shampoo and a cream for him, which has been helping but he's still suffering with the itchiness. Is there something I'm missing?

My aunt has a nasty little bichon that no one in the family likes. Now she is in rehab after a fall, and will have to be in assisted living at least until the spring. The assisted living facility does not accept pets, and needless to say, no one else in the family wants him. Some can tolerate him, but they can't take care of a dog under their current circumstances. For now he's been dumped on my mother. Does anyone know of a place that is set up for taking care of a dog for long periods of time in the Indianapolis area?

The pit bull next door keeps biting my friendly dog in the face!
She constanly jumps, and hangs on to the fence until my dog jumps. I need a solution, because the dog's owner doesn't care.

Mine are definitely comic relief, even though I do take serious care of them. Some people don't seem to see the comic aspect of their pets and are so deadpan serious about them.

My 4 week old kitten's poop is runny on a regular basis. She was weaned too early and is now on a mixture of wet food and kitten milk - is this a normal consistency given the situation?

Many people feel bad that they get to eat these wonderful dinners and their dogs just get to sit there and watch. So, since bones and table scraps are two major concerns during the holidays for our dogs, can anyone tell me why?

Plants are also a big issue since we are coming into the holidays. Other than Holly, which everyone knows by now is the worst danger to dogs, what outher plants should you be careful of?

Please folk, no thumbs down or reporting! I like everyone to have a change to voice their thoughts, regardless of how wrong they are! :-)

The only animal shelter is an hour away and they normally put strays to sleep within a few days and I don't have the heart to do that. I am not sure yet if I can keep him because of my other dog therefore I do not want to pay out to take him to the vet (which the nearest one is also an hour's drive away). He is starving but seems to have trouble eating. I am feeding him some dog food but he seems to have trouble with the hard foods. Are there any home cooking recipes that would be good to get this dog back to eating again? I bought him some of the canned Alpo beef w/rice and he loved it but that is too expensive to buy all the time - he is a medium sized dog. I gave him a bath and cut the matted fur on him but it feels like if you touch him too hard his ribs will break. I am not even sure about giving him away right now because of how underfed he is - any suggestions?

My cat is 17 years of age, I have caught her 3 times lying in her litter box, is this a sign that she's having trouble Urinating? Could this be a sign of kidney problem? She doesn't go any where else but her litter box..

Recently, my friend was over, and I picked my cat up and held him like a baby and started scratching his tummy, which made him purr. My friend then told me that purring is not a happy or content sounds, but a sound cats make when they are upset, she said cats use purring like a "self comforting" technique when they are scared or unhappy, to calm themselves down. Has anyone else hear this? One way, my cat is relaxed and happy and loves me, the other he is scared an upset pretty much 24/7!

HI--we adopted an 11 mo. old cat from the shelter 5 days ago. We have had her in the basement and she is was doing okay---we introduced her over to the main floor for an hr or so over the last couple of days---we took her to the vet for her check up yesterday(all is fine)--but since then she is SO SCARED and refuses to come upstairs...when she was up here the last couple of times--she got scared form the phone....mirrors--all the action on the main floor...now when we bring her up she hides--runs down stairs. When we open the basement door she will never come up,etc. Should we continue to encourage--carry her up or just let some time go by? I feel so bad to just leave her in the basement and we can't spend all day down there. Thank you
