I don't think it is. I have to leave mine alone when I come to work for 8 hrs. as long as they have plenty of water and food around during the day. I make sure my dog get's plenty of TLC when I get home though and I take him for a walk.

Most dogs can tolerate being left alone for this time period. Think of it this way: most people sleep between 8 and 10 hours every night- and the dogs are asleep for the entire night as well. Remember, dogs sleep for about 95%-99% of the time that they're home alone. Dogs' bladders and bowels settle down during sleep, so once they're about a year old, they can easily be home alone for 6 hours, since they'll sleep most of the time.
Puppies, however, need more attention. From about 3-7 months of age, they should be taken outside every few hours.
Even adult dogs, however, benefit from the more mental and physical stimulation- so dogs who may be home alone for 6 hours on a daily basis can definitely benefit from a mid-day walk from a dog walker.

I have 2 staffordshire bull terriors! Im set off to work at 7:50 in the morning and im home for around 4ish! Theyre 4&3 years old now, so they are really good. They just sleep through the day and get used to it, also they are more grateful to see you when you get home which is nice! If you get them trained so they don't leave any mess round the house you will be completely fine! To stop them doing doesnt take that much training just a telling off every time they doo it and shove their nose in it! haha I kept them in a cage at first, which they didn't mind as they saw it as they're beds basically, but they are now trusted to stay out:) Honestly, they are worth getting them and will just sleep through the day I have no problems:)

No.it's ok. Just give him a lot of attention when you get home, maybe a long walk or something. I have had to leave my dog alone a few times for 12 hours. I felt so guilty, but my husband was in a very serious accident and on life support, so I had to spend a lot of time away from home. But at the same time. it was so nice to have him to come home to. He never once peed on the floor or torn anything up. He's a great dog!

No it is not, but dogs need attention so that they dont go to the bathroom in the house. Try having a friend or family member drop by and let it out about a few hours aand make sure it has food and water.

Nope, make sure theyve gone to the bathroom and have had lots of water and a meal, Give them room to move it there in a crate. Give them a window to look out and there good for hours.
Just asking the question makes you a good dog owner.

I have a 3 yr old yorkie (5 lbs) and he stays home from 6:30am- 4:30 pm every day! (no accidents or anything) He just sleeps while we are gone, then we play with him and give him a lot of attention from the time we get home to bed time!! :)

most people work, and 6 hours is not bad. depending on the age of the dog, you can crate train the dog to keep the doggie from troublesome things like chewing on innapropriate items.

If the dog likes to watch tv, leave it on as it keeps them from running around the house and ruining everything..this is what I did for my pets

If the dog is a puppy it is probably not a good idea. Possibly you can get another dog to be it's companion so it isn't truly "left alone" for that length of time.
