Breeding records are used to stop inbreeding ie mating animals related to each other. This can cause all sorts of genetic problems further down the line. In conservation its used to maximise the genetic pool especially important if an animal is rare and only a few individuals survive. Breeders will use the records to determine which animals produce the best offspring. Hope this is of some help to you!

Rabbit breeders use breeding records/pedigrees. As other people have mentioned, it helps prevent inbreeding. Also, with rabbits, it can help you get or avoid certain colors you want or don't want. It also shows the name of the rabbit breeders up to a few generations back so that you have a better idea of what you will get from a breeding. It helps to determine compatibility when you are breeding for show rabbits.

Any good breeder, for any type of animal, will maintain breeding records. You want to make sure that you maintain genetic diversity - in that you don't want to breed a brother and sister together - or father and daughter etc..

You may also want to breed certain characteristics (say a bad hip in dogs) out.

For my Golden Retriever we have a family tree going back to the grandparents of the breeding partners.

you get money money with a purebred than a mix.
their "genetically perfect" or aim to be. if there is a breeding record it helps to select their next breeding. for example keeping close family seperate from breeding with another, and its easier to select quality traits if you know their lineage.
