we are missing a cow. i think someone shot it. i want to try to locate it by smell. it died on Saturday. would i be able to smell it?

Yes they smell right away. Just because of the simple fact of once they die all the urine and feces are expelled and the smell of the animal changes.

I would think that it depends on where you live. If you are using a dog, it may not matter.

The reason is heat! If you live in Arizona or southern Claifornia, where it gets very warm, then not too long.

Bit if you live where it's cooler: Washington, Maine, Alaska, it may take a week or more w/out a dog.

A dead animal can't smell anymore..all it's senses died with it.

If its dead, it cannot smell anymore, and it will never again be able to smell.
