It depends on the situation. If the dog is whelping a litter of pups or a cat has a little diarhhea then the first option would be to handle it at home to see if the situation gets better. And while waiting people can ask other pet owners if they have any ideas on how to deal with the problem and ask for general advice. If it doesn't get better then the next option is the vet. Some people do have a few hum dingers on here, but for the most part the questions are good, valid ones.

Have you gotten a second opinion from another vet? Have you tried spending time with just this cat? Does it attack the other cat? It might have a problem on it's own and not from jealousy. Albeit 4K is a lot for cat surgery or whatever it is, But first you have to see if it is needed. Try to make your 3 year old comfortable and see how she feels. Maybe she'll start eating again and whatever health issues it has will go away. Again that is a maybe. Your best bet is the second opinion. I highly doubt a process involving four thousand dollars comes from jealousy.

Your kitty does have a real problem all right: Loss of weight and appetite, and pain in her abdomen wouldn't be caused by simple jealousy. You may want a second opinion, but be aware that whatever you do, it's going to be expensive to help her.

Have her tested, and you might even want to request an x-ray if the vet doesn't suggest it. You need to be sure of what you're dealing with.

As for paying for whatever you end up doing, at worst many vets will try to work with you on payment plans. I had to do that a couple of times for various sick felines.

Good luck!

You know, I really dont trust vets anymore. They are just there to rip you off. If you REALLY dont know much about cat medicine, they WILL take advantage of you. I've gone to every local vet here regarding a surgery that I "needed" for a cat that was supposed to cost me thousands of dollars. I finally took my cat to the one vet that had retired but came back because he kept hearing of his old clients being ripped off, well he told me my cat doesn't need surgery. If I have the surgery the cat will feel the same way (temporarily worse) that he does currently. I also found out that another vet had me giving pills to this cat that would kill him within a few years! I was extremely pissed because the other vet wanted me to keep my cat on these pills for life. Yeah and he would only live a few years.... See a few other vets!!

Cats don't vomit and lose weight chronically from jealousy. Give her 1 tsp of Vaseline (warm and mixed with a few drops of tuna juice, force her to lick it off her paws if she won't eat it voluntarily) twice a daily for 2 days. I must impress that delaying for 48 hours if it is a serious blockage can be the difference for her between life and death. Taking her for treatment at your vet immediately is your best option. If she cannot pass whatever is blocking her, she probably needs an enema from your vet, or even surgery if it is very serious.

Unfortunately if her problem requires surgery and/or hospitalization it is going to be costly. A veterinarian and his or her staff is trained to deal with these problems, and unfortunately cannot tailor a treatment plan based on how much money you want to spend. If she needs their help to survive, it's going to cost what it costs, and that's what it costs.

Looks like you need to get her treatment soon...sorry to hear about this..if you are having a hard time affording the bill there is Pet Health Insurance..it works more like a credit card and you can make monthly payments...you can talk to your vet usually theu have information on it or you can check it out on the web there are different ones but here is one link http://www.petcareinsurance.com/

And always, always get a second opinion...ALWAYS!

Dude! she has worms, shes getting skinny, not eating, vomiting, not her self, these are alot of the signs of that. I know its gross but look at her poop....if you have more than one cat in the house than its very possible she picked something up . do they all use the same litter box together? that might be why, maybe your not cleaning it enough...
