I have a 29 gal. freshwater tank, and we're looking to add a second, much larger tank. We LOVE our aquarium! It's been set up for about 3 years now, and it's been pretty successful (until my spotted catfish got bored one day and ate all the neons).

I would like to keep the 29 gal. as a semi-aggressive tank with catfish, gouramis, sharks, etc. and use the bigger tank for community fish, like mollies, neons and tetras. Have any of you had a community freshwater tank this big with these species? Can I use a few seashells from the ocean in a freshwater tank of that size? Is it harder to maintain than a 29 gal? And it's going to be on the second level of the home (1st level is a finished basement). Will my floorboards hold that much weight?

I appreciate any tips and advice.

I have heard some on here say that one breed is more loyal then another. Don't you think that loyalty is a result of bonding though?

In my experience, if you're a dedicated and loyal owner, no matter the breed, you're going to have a dedicated and loyal dog.

Granted different breeds express themselves in a variety of ways and some are more affectionate then others. But to say that one breed is more loyal then another? Do you think that's an accurate statement?

My pet rat tudy is the most amazing pet in the worl. im so worried about her.. yesterday afternoon she decided to take a nose dive off my sholder to the floor. i cought her mid air by her tail so my 3 cats wouldnt get her. in doing so about an inch and a half of her tail skin came off. i have searched all over the internet for info, but the best i could find for in home treatments was clean bedding, wash in salt water, neosporin, and 10 to 30 mg of asprian for pain. i have no money to take her to the vet... im keeping a casreful watch over her for any signs of infection.. but none so far... im so worried about her. i dont know what i would do if i lost her. can someone help me please????!?

I was thinking of choosing 2 or 3 Fresh Water Angels...in a 20 gallon tank. They would only be like 2 or 3 inches long and I would get them a bigger tank in a few months or move them into my 50 gallon and throw those stupid goldfish out in the pond. I was thinking of about 4 - 6 Neon Tetras and some Guppy's as tank mates...maybe a pair of platies.

What do angel fish need though! I bought a nice one for $40.00 put him in my tank the next day it was dead, every angel fish I got. Thier fins would turn red and rip and they would die or they would grow fungus!

I have a few questions...heh.

I have a female black lab who is going on 8 months. She had her first heat cycle about a month ago. As of right now, she has swelling up the teets and her abdomin seems to look like its getting a little larger. I don't know how to tell if this is a real pregnancy or false pregnancy. I know the best answer will be by an examination by a vet.

1)Is it possible for an 11 month old male to get my dog pregnant in just a few short minutes without even getting tied up? (Being that this was his first time mating, aslo)

2) Is it common for dogs to experience false pregnancies their first time in heat?

3)Do signs for pregnancy and false pregnancy show up in the same time frame? If so, how long after heat will they show these signs?

if anyone could give me some advice, i'd greatly appreciate it! thanks!

Turns out Red is a girly girl. Is there any way to preserve the egg, keep it from stinking up the house so he can keep it as one of his treasures, with the snake skins, beaver skull, bird feathers, etc..

It already has a hole in it from being reverently admired so it would have to be rinsed somehow. Right now it's in the refrigerator.

Help us out oh wise ones!

My 4 year old Dalmatian has been acting sick lately, and I don't know what it is...it started a three days ago...she was coughing a lot and constantly licking the floor. Then, she started throwing up. I came home yesterday and she had eaten part of my hallway rug, which is not like her. Then I noticed that she's been itching her bum alot. She's a rather itchy dog (she chews her paws when they itch and her ears, also), so I don't think anything else of it if it happens every once in a while, but coupled with the throwing up and coughing, I'm wondering if it's something else. Worms, perhaps? If this is the case, do the over the counter de wormers work, or should I take her to the vet? My 7 month old husky was throwing up yesterday, too, but she was eating a lot of grass all day and that was all she threw up. What's going on in my house???

I am in the process of adopting an ADORABLE 11month old German Sheppard/Pitbull. I know a lot of people may be turned off by this and think its mean, but I have met the dog, and it honestly doesnt have a shred of aggresive behavoir, or any that would harm anything, its bark is truly worse then its bite. Are many mean dogs a product of their upbringing, or are some traits inherenit? Thanks. I am really looking forward to adopting this resuce dog and giving it a life it deserves. In fact, it is so friendly, they have it train with the kids who visit the shelter. Her name is Taffy and she is as cute as a button. Thanks

i read a question on here posted by someone asking why people consider their dogs part of the family. it got me thinking... i really do consider my dog an active part of my family. i am not silly enough to think she is my genetic child like this person was making out people think, but my dog is my little girl. i love her as part of my family and do not look at her and think "shes a dog, i own her". i do not believe i "own" her as such, i just believe she exists and i am lucky enough for her to be living with me. i hate the term "own" when it comes to pets. i hate to think that we can actually "own" another living thing.

just wanted to get some responses about peoples opinions on how much u consider your dog a part of ur family and not just a pet. also conflicting views if u wish, if u DO look at ur dog as just a pet. i am not here to judge anyone, this question just got me thinking about dog lovers. answer away, i cant wait to read other peoples views on this subject! =)

Hi,

Ok I recently started to have fish, and I love bettas! I have a blue male here in a small tank with a filter and bubbles...At first he seemed perfect and loved his bubbles! Now, recently, he's been sleeping at the bottom on the gravel, BEHIND the filter...He was always on the gravel facing down...So I cleaned his tank, put the water a little warmer for him...but I just found him behind the filter again! What is he doing? Is that normal?

I have another red male betta in a small pot...I just switched them...Now the blue one is swimming and seems fine...But I'm worried he's dying anyway...

Is it normal that they sleep on the gravel OR stay at the very top of the water? My previous bettas did not live very long, so I'd like to keep these guys healthy!
