I think you can probably buy a 10-gallon starter kit including tank, lid, pebbles, plastic plant, etc. for about $25-$30. You can probably find a 20 gallon for $35-$45. This is at PetsMart. You may be able to find them cheaper at Wal-Mart. My daughter bought a 20-gallon a few months ago for about that price.

I remember when I used to work at the pet store it used to be $1 per gallon, up to about a 70 gallon tank.

Might be a little more these days, and the other thing to consider is the quality of the tank. Some of the cheaper manufactures use thinner tempered glass, where the better tanks use thicker plate glass!

I'm not sure about a 20 gallon but Petland Discounts sells 10 gallon starter sets for 12.88. Sorry, I don't recall exactly what was in it but I remember it had gravel, a corner filter, a book, and food. I don't remember what else there was, but I know that did not include the hood or light.

$10 for a 10gallon tank without a hood. works for me, I feel hoods get int he way, and I've never had a problem.

of course it all deppends on the fish and whether you want a light or not. I have two goldfish tnaks, no hoods and a tank full of female bettas, no hood. one tank has live plants, but they recieve indirect sunlight so they don't need a light.

I've never seen a 20gallon with no hood, so I don't no pricings for that.

Not too much, between $20.00 and $50.00. I always do this, buy a tank, but by the time I am out of there I have easily spent well over $200.00 on accessories and more fish.
Sounds like I am paranoid, however, It's almost like a trap!
