I am in the process of adopting an ADORABLE 11month old German Sheppard/Pitbull. I know a lot of people may be turned off by this and think its mean, but I have met the dog, and it honestly doesnt have a shred of aggresive behavoir, or any that would harm anything, its bark is truly worse then its bite. Are many mean dogs a product of their upbringing, or are some traits inherenit? Thanks. I am really looking forward to adopting this resuce dog and giving it a life it deserves. In fact, it is so friendly, they have it train with the kids who visit the shelter. Her name is Taffy and she is as cute as a button. Thanks

both are good and loyal dogs, so together they should be great rolled in one. i have volunteered at the humane society for a while and pits are usually not adopted but truly the sweetest dogs in the place. also, very good with kids.

yes, most dogs are agressive if they are abused, severely neglected, have not been socialized and/or trained to be mean.

many times when you here of a pitbull attack it is not a real pitbull. more likely a mix or something that resembles a pit. no one really checks into the actual breed. many people confuse english staffordshire terriers, staffordshire bull terriers, and american pitbull terriers, as well.

many people who say the negative have never personally met a pit. also keep in mind, if people put every positive a pit did on the news there wouldn't be any time for the bad (which is how they attract people).

you may want to ask if there is any chance of hip displaysia, as it is a problem in many dogs.
good luck. treat it well.

A lot of people are turned off with the sound of PitBull! Let me tell you something, if you raise the dog right, the dog will act right. No matter the breed, no matter the size. I myself have a pit, the only thing he will do is lick you to death. Hes such a sissy. He will be three in Oct. Ive had him since a puppy. Like you said his bark is a lot worse than his bite, hell when we are playing and he bites to hard and I say "ouch" he will stop and start licking me where he last bit at. Smart and wonderful breed. People shouldnt slander the dogs for the bad they hear about them. I just wish the news would show the good on the pitbull breed!!! If you want to know anything about the breed, let me know, I will help as best as I can.

She sounds like a WONDERFUL dog!!!

Breed and genetics DO play a part in personality. Both of the German Shepherds and Pitbulls are dominate dogs. Therefore they require a human that can have control over them AT ALL TIMES. They MUST know that YOU are in charge, NOT THEM. They will test your limits until they know know this. You cant let them get away with ANYTHING!!! Once you have established that you are the "Alpha" they are GREAT!!

Both are very smart breeds and were bred to do a job. If they don't have an outlet for their energy and something to stimulate their mind, then they will find something. This could be anything from chewing or digging, being overprotective, or barking.

They are both WONDERFUL breeds, But remember that neither is for the first time pet owner. Do research on both breeds.

GOOD LUCK

i own 2 american staffordshire terriers, aka pittbulls. I'm confronted by stereotypical " breed profiling" on a daily basis. Most of the people who are so disturbed by pit bulls, and other commonly stereotyped breeds, have never been around them. They just know what the hear presented by the media, and " monster killer dogs" sell on the news. The athletic ability and strength of a pit bull or a german shepard is above average in comparison to most breeds, thus presenting a more important reason to take your dogs' training more seriously. Because if they do make a mistake, it will be a more dangerous mistake. My mom had a poodle who sent 2 people to the hospital. That was the most dangerous dog i ever met.

Way to go I am sure that you would do well with that pup! She sounds like a real sweetie!

Don't let some of these Trolls influence you in any way! There are no "bad" breeds, just bad owners!

Here is a question I posed earlier today. It has some really insightful information about so called "dangerous" dogs. Some of the answers are wonderful and should help you out.

I asked the question out of sarcasm since there are so many Morons on this site that I couldn't take it any longer. But, now with your question here, I am glad I did. The information will be useful to you! Good luck! I am sure all will go well!!!!

There are a bunch of things you should know about dog training but we are going to discuss what I feel are some the most important. Keep in mind that these are only some of the things you should know. Go here http://OnlineDogTraining.enle.info/?b3FJ

1. Repetition is the number 1 principle of dog training. Dogs just like humans learn by doing things over and over in order to get better.

2. Dog Training can and should be fun for both you and your new pet.

3. Training sessions should always be short but sweet. I never work a dog more than 15 minutes in a session to keep from losing the dog's attention. You should train you dog at least once a day but never more than three formal sessions a day.

4. Your goal should be that each training session is just a little bit better than the last one. You need to always strive to make the training better, slowly. I mention this because quite often I see people who do daily training sessions but the dog never gets better and it is not the dogs fault.

5. Having patients is very important in dog training. Losing your temper does not work with a canine it simply makes things worse.

6. Exercise is very important in the training process to get rid of all the dogs nervous energy.

7. Taking your pet for walks is very important because it develops serotonin which gives your dog a feeling of well being.

8. Always be sure to give your dog a bunch of praise in your training. It is your dog's paycheck for doing a great job.

9. Never hit your dog. I have heard people say I never hit my dog instead I roll up a magazine and swat it. It's the same thing... hitting is hitting.

10. After each training session be sure to do something that your dog will enjoy. Take it for a walk, throw the ball or maybe even rub its belly. Just do something that makes the dog look forward to the next training session.

These are things that I teach my dog training students as well as my dog training clients. I hope these things will give you something to think about when training your dog. Spend some time training your dog daily and you will both reap the benefits.

Any time you get a dog like that , you may get issues, just be careful or you could be opening yourself up to a lawsuit. With a rescue dog you never know what you're gonna get. I admire people who take these dogs. I wish you the best of luck!

Both of these breeds are considered "dangerous dogs". I dont care how much "charm" a dog has it can still unexpectaedly attack and kill for no apparent reason. That is especially true with dangerous dogs. Good lluck dude.

OK, any dog that has Pit Bull in it, will, and I emphasize WILL, one day, attack some person, or another dog.

I read in the newspaper again, and again, and again, where pit bull dogs attack people and animals. ALWAYS the owner is shocked at their dog's behavior.

Don't chance it. It is not worth it.
