I have wild mice that get in my home, but they're looking for warmth not my hamsters. However we did several years ago have a hamster get loose, never found it, but few months later strange looking mice were being caught and killed by my cats. Cats only kill the mice not the real hamsters-raised together. Not the typical grey or brown mice either, some had shortened tails and were tan with a white band across their back and other combinations. Others looked like mice but had hamster like tails, it is weird. I didn't think they genetically could breed. Keep the food in a sealed container and clean up after them daily, they like to spit food sometimes. The below site has advise on hamsters.

no they don't. not unless, of course, you have lots of mice in your room, but they wouldn't get into the cage anyway. But most likely you would not have a problem with that
