Pets - 15 January 2007

Whenever we leave our dog alone, never for more than 2/3 hours, he crys and yelps. Sometimes from the minute i leave until i return. Its really annoying but we dont want it to start to cause problems with our neighbours .. Ive been told its separation anxiety disorder but dont know how to correct it, hes due to be castrated within a month, vet has said it may calm him down but its more of a behaviour problem HELP!

It really bothers me that there are no "no kill" animal shelters in my area. Does anyone know where I can look into getting the funding and support to start one? I almost was sick when I heard that the animals are only given less than 7 days at the shelter before they're "humanely" uthanized. I feel like this is something I should look into since I'm so strongly bothered by it.

I have 3 other betta's and I've never had this problem before. I got this betta last Tuesday, and I don't think it has eaten at all. I talked to our local fish store... and they told me to feed it shrimp pellets.... none of my betta's will eat those... I have tried 2 different kinds of betta food.

I have a 10-gallon tank that houses: 2 gold mystery snails, one algae eater, 2 male guppies, 2 swordtails, and 2 neon tetras. Can I place my male betta in the tank as well?

I have 2 small dogs and I'm going to be getting a chihuahua for my friend but the small dogs and I know the chihuahua will not like water or water activities. So I am looking for another type of dog that will love the water. I prefer short haired dogs. Now I know that Boxers love the water because my Mom has one and I want one of my own BAD but my friend is not sure of having a large dog in the house w/ 3 other dogs so I am still researching of a smaller dog that enjoys being in the water so by the time the summer gets here I can at least have my dog enjoying time with me. Any Help?

i found info that simply sayes that thier greedy and will eat whatever they can stuff into thier mouths and stomachs but my lil guy's stomach gets huge for his size and he will still want more. what to do?

i got my maltese from the pet store when she was 6 weeks old - she cost me $800, dropped from $1600. she is now 8 weeks old. she has a very snappy temerament and always growls and bites me when i try to pick her up or feed her. when i got her, she was in a cage with 3 other maltese girls in it that all had a problem with their eyes. my girl had an eye infection, kennel cough and fleas when i got her. i was given some flea meds for her and and a $15 gift voucher for their store. they were feeding her science diet large breed adult food so they gave me a 3lb bag of that. she always hides in her crate, cries everynight, is not affectionate, is very aggressive towards strangers and other dogs. i cant even take her for a walk. she is afraid of loud noises and big people (luckily im only 5'1). i dont know what to do! can someone please give me advice? she is a nightmare to live with! i need serious answers only. she also shakes a lot when in her crate, and she somtimes vomits after meals.

Mine loves to eat grass and if I gave him the whole box which i got from the pet store he will eat it. Once I left the box unattended and he ate so much that he puked it after that. But since I know he likes it I try to get him new grass occasionally.

We have tried numerous tactics, and disipline doesn't seem to work either. She still continues to tear open garbages bags or take it from the garbage container that has a lid on it. I am tired of coming home only to find garbage over the floor.

I just noticed that alot of people are asking for home cures for dog ear infections, and ear mites. Let's say, you treat a dog for either of the two with home remedies, and you don't take them to the vet first, to see if they actually have ear mites, or an ear infection, can't you cause more damage by not getting it diagnosed first.
