Mine loves to eat grass and if I gave him the whole box which i got from the pet store he will eat it. Once I left the box unattended and he ate so much that he puked it after that. But since I know he likes it I try to get him new grass occasionally.

Heres a REAL timesaver for you. If you've seen catgrass advertised save your money. Its wheat/rye grass. I live in western Oklahoma and get it for free. Think about going down to the COOP and growing all he wants. If it dries out it will help prevent "fur-balls". Yes my Stimpy IS SPOILED>LUCK

It is normal for cats to eat some greens-- when they are in the wild they do. As for eating too much and making the cat puke, just put it in a cat-proof place(you could lock a cabinet) I know how hard it is to keep stuff from cats because I have two and they are always in everything. So give the cat some grass sometimes and let him nibble it a little bit but keep control over amounts and DON'T let him guilt you into giving him more than the amount that you want to give him.

One of the reasons that a lot of cats throw up grass is that standard yard/lawn grass (not to mention a lot of other yard plants) aren't designed for them, and may not even be healthy for them. If you look real close at most yard grass, you will see that it has sharp, jagged edges which can catch on the back of the cat's tongue or back of the throat, which is what makes them throw up. Gag reflex. I always purchase cat grass that is made for cats -- generally a variant of barley or oat grass formulated for their digestive systems. And regarding how often to give it to them, I find that really depends on whether or not your cat needs supervision. One of my cats turns his head sideways to eat it and just "mowed" off what he wanted. Another, however, likes to grab hold and pull, and if the container wasn't heavy enough, or the plant roots deep enough, ended up pulling out the grass by the roots. Once this happens, obviously, it won't grow any longer. Plus is make a mess of dirt and dead grass roots. And I end up having to buy it more often. I haven't run into a cat that just eats and eats without stopping, but if you have that, it would be another good reason to monitor his/her intake.

Buy grass for cats? My cat used to chew grass out of the garden whenever he wanted to. They use grass to make themselves puke so no suprise he puked after a whole box. I would leave the cat to chew his own grass whenever he needs to. Will save you money too.

I always have a container of cat grass out for my cat. It is good roughage. If it is always available the cat will probably learn to not gorge itself, or just buy a smaller container of grass.

Are you sure there isn't something upsetting his stomach. Animals will sometimes eat grass to try to sooth other stomach problems. I think you should at least call the vet and ask for some advise.

there are several companies that sell "catgrass" for you to grow specifically for your cat to eat, so she won't eat your houseplants that could be poisonous.
your cat may not be eating the grass to make herself throw up-- she might just be craving some veggies. an all tuna diet can do that to you.
