I just noticed that alot of people are asking for home cures for dog ear infections, and ear mites. Let's say, you treat a dog for either of the two with home remedies, and you don't take them to the vet first, to see if they actually have ear mites, or an ear infection, can't you cause more damage by not getting it diagnosed first.

Absolutely. If a dog has an ear infection it needs to be treated by a doctor with antibiotics. If left untreated it can lead to the dog losing it's hearing. Ear mites I am not sure about because there are so many over the counter cures for them though I am sure it is best to have a vet treat them

Ya know, years ago vets were not always available. People lived miles apart and most of their friends were in to the same hobbies hunting, fishing etc. They used to swap out remedies and suggestions to each other. But, they knew through years of experience and training. Their fathers or family taught them as they grew. Today, there are vets available 24/7 and always a phone call away. First (if you want to keep in good graces of your vet) learn when you need a vet or when it isn't an emergency. Keep your regular appointments and call if you have a question. My vet has even ordered meds for my dogs from my local pharmacy. If you are not an experience person.........become one.
Anyone of us can find ourselves short on cash...........God knows I certainly have! However, after years of dealing with my vet she knows she will get paid and bills me if I say I'm short this month. Scrimping on your dogs health or testing someone elses theories isn't responsible pet ownership.......

Take it to the vet is the best advise. If you can't afford it than you probably shouldn't have the pet. Home remedies sometimes work but sometimes they can cause more damage than good. Really, in the long run, it's not that much of an expense to take it to the vet.

Yes that could be the case--but for the most part if you know enough to treat your dog for mites--then it should be fine--and then your dogs wont have recurring mites--

yeah..the vet is the only way to go.people are cheap when it comes to vets and dr.s for some reason. The spca or free clinics should be utilized if there's a income problem thats why they are there!!!!!!so take your animals to the vet!!!!

yes, you could cause more problems by not treating the right thing...it also causes your dog more discomfort for a longer period of time if not treating for the right problem. it is always best to seek professional help.

Yes. If you love your pet, take it to the vet. (I sound like Johnny Cochran, don't I--LOL)
We shouldn't provide a diagnosis ourselves, leave it to the professionals.
