I am thinking about getting a Jack Russell dog. I hear they are very intelligent. Can anyone tell me about them?

They are very smart and very, very energetic so be prepared to keep them busy or they will tear your house apart.

Jack Russell Terriers are extremely smart and full of energy--to the point of hyper. Make sure you are willing to dedicate a decent amount of time each day to exercise them-- walking, fetch, etc. They are tons of fun, but having a Jack is a commitment for sure!

Russells are incredibly smart dogs... if you let them live their instinct. Lots of walking, fetching, and games will expand their minds, otherwise they will entertain themselves. If the dog becomes a steady digger (because they are Earth Dogs), find a local park with moles to dig up, or maybe the local Earth Dog challenge course.

Aboslutely not. Canines are not self-aware, can't do math, and their very limited lexicon primarily consists of simple noises. Aside from that, they have little comon sense, and almost no problem solving abilities. I would say a Jack Russel is incredibly stupid. If you mean to ask how smart a Jack Russel is compared to other dogs, they are known for being above average.

They are very smart and high energy. I was thinking of getting one myself, but decided on a Border Terrier instead as they were a better fit for my lifestyle. I list a couple of source links that may help you.

Yes! I have two of them they are very intellegent!!! They are quick learners, and great lapdogs. But when something is wrong, they let you know. If someone weird is around your hosue or they get a bad vibe from a stranger, you will know! I love them. They obey well. Good Luck.

Very intelligent doesn't even come close, extremely intelligent is getting there. They are also very very very energetic, don't get one unless your able to give them lots of room to move and play, and lots of time.

I had a cross breed. They are very smart but not good around children. They tend to snap and can be vicious. As they are so small if a child get behind them and spooks them then they do turn and snap. They get cantankerous as they get older as well.

Very easy to train but not good around kids.

extra smart! So smart you need to entertain their brain or they will do it themselves maybe by tearing your curtains down and then trying to figure out how to put them back up! lol
