Because your scent is on those items! He wants to feel as though he is near you, or has something of yours. When some people use a crate to train their dogs, they will put something of theirs in the crate with the puppy, like an old tee shirt, or sweater just so the puppy associates that with his master, and is more content. He wants a bed to lay on and your scent is on your stuff and they can smell you and it makes them feel close to you to lay on it. Buy him a doggie bed and if he does not want to lay on it put one of your shirts on it for a few days and then once he gets use to that being his bed he will always lay there. When i put my dogs big huge dog pillow in the wash they will stand in the room looking at where it was wondering if its ever coming back and in the mean time if there is even as much as a sock laying on the floor my 10 year old boxer will turn in circles and lay down on it till her bed comes back clean. lol

Dogs feel better when their owner, which is there best friend in the whole world, is around them. It comforts them, your scent is usually on you clothes, bags, and other things you use. Even if your not around them , and your dog is smelling your scent on something, it still seems to them that you are there!!!

Most dogs do that. Every dog that I've had has done that. It's because they (your personal items) hold your smell. By lying on them, the dog feels close to you. Your puppy likes you. Be happy!

It's just because he loves you. Your scent is probably comforting to him. If you don't want him laying on these things, try putting an old sweatshirt that you've worn in HIS bed. This might help!

Well, if it's a puupy, 2 reasons
(1). It likes benig near you and if it's your stuff it thinks it's you
(2). It's a puppy not like he knows any better!
If it's a full-grown dog, it might just be No.1.

Your scent is on them. The puppy thinks your it's mom, and being near your scent, makes him feel more secure.

Because its comfy and your his parent. YOur scent is comforting to him. Same with babies. When you hold your baby they smell you and sometimes stop crying because they smell you and know its you and are comforted. They even make pillows for babies that are shaped a certain way and you put your scent on it and it helps them fall asleep (same idea with dogs)

he is probably very close to you, so he figures if he lays on the stuff you need to go out you wont go out and you will spend more time with him.
you just need to tell him in a regular tone that i will be back shortly and ill spend time with you when i come back
he will probby feel much more comferterable if you do that
