I got a three year old dog from a family who couldn't take care of her anymore. The son in the family was a long distance runner and trained the dog to run with you. I would like to take her running, but I have seen people do it different ways. I have seen some people use one of the retractable leashes and let the dog run a fair ways ahead of them. And I have seen others using shorter leashes and keeping the dogs right by their side. I don't have this families number, so I can't ask how the son trained the dog to run before. Which is the better way, or does it not even matter?

my kitten always has something in his eye or seems as if his eyes get irritated easily. Do they make some type of eye drops or moisture drops for cats?

I will be getting a kitten soon for my 2 year old. We live in a condo so the cat will be inside all the time when we are at home. What are some things I should know about owning a indoor cat? Also, how do you keep from walking in the front door and knowing that a cat lives there? I have a friend who owns a cat and I can tell it everytime I enter her house by the smell. My sister-in-law also has 2 cats but you can't tell it when you walk in her house. So, for those of you who have indoor cats, do you use certain products to keep the smell away?

All he does is just breath. I feed him 3 times a day and it won't even go to the food. I clean the tank when it gets dirty, or when it is time. I dont want it to die and I dont know what's wrong. What can it be? He is breathing fine but not moving as well, it is always at the bottam tank,,,, '
What's wrong?

Two questions for anyone who has ever had one...(they might sound dumb, but...)

I have read that they will play with a ball of tinfoil if you put it in the tank (due to the electricity in their 'nose')...how did you get the ball of tinfoil to sink without being too heavy for them to play with?

I feed my other fish freezedried bloodworms and they love them. However, these float as well and the Elephant nose doesn't seem to notice them. I want him to enjoy some too, any ideas on how to make the bloodworms sink? I haven't seen any sinking bloodworms in my petstore...

thanks for your help! :)

We're looking at re-homing an adult golden retriever - can anyone give me a ball park figure for the cost of keeping one? ie weekly/monthly costs for food, pet insurance etc. Also can anyone recommend a UK pet insurer?

Thanks

I've had iguana's and I'm found them too fast and picky eaters. Not to mention one of them got mean after 3 years. I've heard leopard geckos are a good try. I'd like something that moves on the slower side....

I'm going away for a week and leaving my cat and small dog at home. I have a pet sitter coming twice a day for walks and feeding but they're still going to be alone for much of the time. Unfortunately, I don't really have anyone else in the area that could take them. The last time I put them in the kennel, my dog came back fat and I really don't like the idea of them being in cages for that long. Is there any way to make the time alone easier for them? It breaks my heart to leave them but there is absolutely no way to take them with me. Thanks for your help!

Ive been looking after a neighbours westie recently and it seems to always be ill and have an upset stomach. I dont know what my neighbour is feeding her but I know she has quite a few treats from him but these arent dog treats, stuff like crisps and chicken. Is this the reason she is always ill? The vet doesnt have a clear idea. She also seems to be biting her legs etc..is this something to do with her being ill? We know its not fleas too. Any help would be appreciated

If I'd let her, she would lick me ALL DAY - EVERY DAY. Does any one know why she does this? I'm not the only one she does this to,
and it gets pretty annoying after awhile. She DOES NOT lack salt, as I've tried giving her ham and she does'nt like it. Has anyone ever heard of a dog having an obsession like this? I will appreciate any help I can get. Serious inquiries only please.~ Debbies MOM

P.S. I'd like to add, that Deb licks me all over, and at times I wake up with her actually SNEAKING up on my mouth to lick it!!!Debbie is my dogs name!

I have three of them. Mother, father, and the baby.

The parents both run from me when I put my hand near them, but their baby ( who is fully grown now ) doesn't. The baby was hand fed by me and I basically just took care of it a few weeks after it was with its parents. He jumps right on my hand when I open cage with no problem - but the parents never cooperate.

I live in Chicago... getting cold here... snowing and in the low 30s now. My 8 wk old pom LOVES to be outside but I'm afraid he'll get sick due to the cold. Everyone tells me my puppy's fur will definitely keep him warm in this weather but I don't believe them. Against their advice, I put a puppy shirt on him and brought along the thin cape I found at Petsmart. As we got to the end of the block, my bf noticed our puppy was shivering. I ALMOST PANICKED! We decided to get back to our place ASAP. I put on his cape but could still feel him shiver as I carried him. [*I couldn't find a heavy cape that would fit him at Petsmart!] Here is my question: what is the lowest temp an 8 wk old pom can tolerate without any clothing on? Do I need to get him doggy shoes?? *The woman at a small pet store near our place told us he didn't need shoes, just a type of protectant on his feet (to protect against the salt that is spread over street n sidewalk). He had that on and his feet seemed ok.
