A good diet is important. Foods with alot of by-products and corn have alot to do with an unhealthy coat. NUTRO cat food found in pet stores is a wonderful food that my cats eat and has helped with their shedding. Also any supplement with the omega 3 fatty acids in it like SHEDX help. Its just a supplement with cod liver oil and other oils to really help with shedding. Other products like LIPADERM and LINATONE help to. A good brushing with a wire slicker brush daily is a good idea too.

Brushing! You need to take the time and groom the cat. If she is a short to medium hair cat, there is an inexpensive device called "Shed-Ender" that is sold on TV that works great! I use this on Vixen, my white/buff female, all the time and keeps her shedding to a minimum. For a longer haired cat, you need to invest in a slicker brush as well as a stiff bristle brush. I have those items for Miracle, my 5-month old kitten, who doesn't shed much but then again I'm not going to let her.
Another thing is bathing. I bathe all three of my cats on alternating weekends. Vixen just had her bath this weekend - Miracle gets her next - and Cupid will get his the following week. I have little issue with shedding now because of my constant brushing (once a day for Vixen - every other day for Cupid and Miracle) and bathing them once every 3 weeks.

I have two cats so I understand your problem. The best way to keep the shedding down is to brush your cat every day. Nothing else is as effective. At first the cat may not like brushing, but in time they will adjust to it and actually enjoy the quiet time with you.
You can also add oil that's made especially for cats to their food and it will help reduce the shedding. You can find this at petsmart.com
if you have any further questions please let me know.

Lay a towel or folded sheet across your lap and brush your cat with a good quality cat brush. Make this a daily routine your cat will look forward to the grooming and so will you there will be a special bonding between you and your house will be free from cat fur.

Try brushing him/her more often, you cant stop shedding its natural. if you dont want to brush then have him/her shaved. It can be really cute if you leave a bushy head and feet and pom pom on the tip of the tail. My aunt had her thick haired white cat shaved and she loved it (the cat loved it that ) and always wanted more attention and she didnt get as many mats. Good luck

Brushing as others suggested. Also vacuum your floor and furniture regularly, weekly if possible. If your cat likes to sleep on beds, put a sheet on top of the bed and wash it every week. That's what we do. Luckily our cat doesn't go on our furniture too much. Loves laying on the carpet, so you get your pants all furry if you go sit beside her...
