We recently got a Mini Dachshund, we were prepared for her in every sense, we thought. She is as small as a popcan! She can't get on the bed, or couches without us carrying her. We're afraid she may cause damage to her spine at this rate. We checked out pet steps but the steps are usually too tall for her to get up and down. Any ideas, web sites, shopping sites would be greatly appreciated.

I have two dogs, a Westie and a Golden Retriever (big difference, i know). The Westie has been around for a while, she is 13. The Golden is app. 18 months. I'm a little confused as to who the alpha dog is. They are both girls, btw.

Here's what goes on:

The Golden will eat the Westie's food, and take her toys, but still seems to be a little timid around the Westie. The Westie gets an attitude around the Golden, and unless the Golden thinks the Westie is playing, she always backs off. It's a mixed situation. It is as if the Golden knows she's bigger, but still respects the Westie.

This all sounds extremely redundant, but hopefully it's clear enough to understand.

I'm cleaning her cage a LOT, disinfecting everything and bathing her once a week with a small amount of antibacterial soap. I put neosporin on her scabby neck and ears. Any other suggestions?

I am putting in this question so I can answer it myself with life saving information about cats and spaying and neutering, and why it is so important.

I know you are allowed to, but is it a total hassle? I am worried my cat will screech and meow the whole time and piss the other passengers off. (I heard you should NOT give them a sedative).

I own a 2 year old male Bullmastiff. I was looking into breeding him and I couldn't believe how much these puppies were going for. I bought my dog 6 months ago from a woman who could not care for him anymore and paid a quarter of what the newspapers are asking! I love this breed of dog but I was curious as to why they are so expensive to buy. Any ideas?

She is doing well with peeing outside and hasn't had an accident in the house for 3 days. We got her from the Humane Society. However, at night, even after she has peed, she stills whins for about 45 minutes or so. Then around 3 or 4am she wakes us up and has to go outside again. When she comes back, she doesn't want to reenter her crate and whins forever!

Will this keep up and what should we do to get her to stop whinning at night? We run her at lunch in the backyard and after we come home from work. So she gets decent exercise.

Anyone have an Australian Shepherd that can help?

I have a 3yr old cocker spaniel, she is fully housetrained and a very good dog.
Although we have recently noticed that she is pulling her bed out of the way and urinating underneath it, then putting her bed back. She doesnt need to wee, as she does it straight after coming in from the garden where she has just had one. She doesnt show any signs of dominance although she only does it in one area of the house, she is spayed. Maybe it could be her hormones?????????/

who knows, some one please help.

I was wondering at what age was it ok to start training our 5 week old puppy. I mean now is too soon but when is it ok to start training like leash walking, sitting, commands? We have already started the potty training and Cocoa's doing well. Also I was wondering how do you train your dog to be protective of me and my husband or does that come naturally? I want her to be protective but not to bite EVERYONE that comes over. I hope everyone can help me with ANYTHING you can tell me to start training her the right way. ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING IS HELPFUL. Also how much are you suppose to feed a 5 week old puppy how much and how many times a day. Thank You

We have a Russian Tortoise, and my 13 year old daughter is constantly carring him in her laps with a blanket like a little baby. He seems to be okay with it, but is it healthy for him, can he get sick from her always carrying him?

well i wanna know if you guys have been told by your vet the same thing, coz my cat cant pee,he always tries but none would come out so i took him to the vet but he couldnt really diagnose the problem coz my cat was really resisting the catheter even if hes tranquilized and he told me that cat food (and dog food) are actually harmful coz it can cause kidney stones in the long run coz its too salty..he told me to just feed him rice and fish,or anything that isnt artifially processed like cat food and dog food (my cat also eats dog food) so tell me,did your vet tell you that its harmful or did something happen to your cat/dog that was caused by it?

I adopted a 1 year old Boxer yesterday, and he only weighs 35llbs. He was found extremely underweight, and adopted by a lady that took him to the vet had everything checked out and fixed every problem he had. I'm just looking for advice on how to help him get to a normal healthy weight. He's been on a normal diet for the past month, getting him on a stable diet. So, how do I safely bump that up to put on the weight?
