We recently got a Mini Dachshund, we were prepared for her in every sense, we thought. She is as small as a popcan! She can't get on the bed, or couches without us carrying her. We're afraid she may cause damage to her spine at this rate. We checked out pet steps but the steps are usually too tall for her to get up and down. Any ideas, web sites, shopping sites would be greatly appreciated.

Just keep picking her up for now, and when she grows she will be amazing. Ours jumps about 3 feet onto the bed now, and he is a love

Make or purchase some ramps, Steps are bad for long bodied dogs. They scissor their backs using steps, Make sure there is some carpet attatched to the ramp so they dont slide off. Good luck with your pup

You can build a little ramp for her - just a basic shape, covered with carpet. You can move it around the house, wherever she happens to need it - or make a few and place them in the important spots. Then she can get up and down without injuring her back.

I have a mini Dachshund as well, and we were afraid she would hurt her back too. But she didnt. Not even close. The only time their spines break is when they get kind of fat.
I know that wasnt exactly the answer you were looking for, but i just thought i would say that =]

-thanks

How about making a simple ramp to get up and down? Staple some carpet on it and it would be very easy for her to use. Try contacting a breeder for more help.
Good luck - she sounds cute!

A ramp may be the way to go, but give her time, my mini weenie dog can jump up on everything now and he couldn't climb stairs when we got him less than a year ago. They learn to jump up quite quickly.

Try a pet ramp. No steps!

There are pet stairs you can purchase or stack old trunks for a retro look.

I built ramps for my friend's basset hound. They work really well.
