Did you tell your vet about the thick black goo or just make an appointment??? I would take the dog to an emergency vet. Thick black goo sounds a lot like a stomach bleed to me..

thats digested blood the dog is passing, he could have parvo. whatever it is he needs seen by a vet, if hes throwng up and pooing digested blood hes gonna be very dehydrated , if you cant take him to the vet now ( which i would advise) then all you can do is keep him hydrated, if hes not drinking then scoop up the water in your hand and put it in his mouth. the first question a vet asks is has he been eating and going to the toilet as usual, your dog sounds very ill he needs a vet tonight , if you let him suffer tonight and he ends up needing an operation in the morning then he will be so tired from being ill all night and might not have the energy to pull threw. im talking from experience (st bernard breeder)

I agree with GP. Get to the vet now, or call an after-hours clinic. At the very least call a vet and get some advice. Thick black goo = blood. The vomitting is dangerous too becasue they can get dehydrated very quickly.
The black goo concerns me quite a bit. Could be pancreatitis, an ulcer, something he ingested could be obstructed or cutting him. CALL YOUR VET ASAP PLEASE!

I artwork at a vet's place of work so I see issues like this plenty. thankfully the sanatorium that at artwork at has a alright-recommended shoppers that takes care of their pets, for the main section. one subject that drives me loopy however is whilst human beings schedule their cats for their spay/neuter and promptly want to declaw the cat. they do no longer even relatively supply it a 2d theory, it is in basic terms a provided that they are going to do it. the only subject it is the toughest working there is the undeniable fact that we artwork very heavily with the close by animal administration. They see extremely some the worst situations of animal abuse and forget, and can convey the extra serious situations to our sanatorium. There are some days that I come homestead from artwork crying because of the fact i've got had to hold unwell, horribly injured, and ignored animals as their placed to sleep. those animals might have been effective if human beings have been extra in charge. I accept as true with all and sundry else asserting that there must be a attempt for human beings to very own animals. regrettably it is on no account going to ensue.

Wouldn't wait 24 hours if it was my dog, I'd be seriously worried. Out of hours or not, I'd want emergency treatment and get him on a drip quick. Sounds very parvo like to me, but only a vet can give a diagnosis. I would be worried that he would be dead before the appointment.

Sounds very much like a gastro-intestinal issue. It could be ulcers, or a variety of problems with te stomach and intestinal tract.
Getting to the vet ASAP is the best as things like these can be serious.

Any black anal discharge, whether animal or human, needs immediate investigation, as it could be caused by
internal bleeding from many sources. A vet, IMMEDIATELY is the solution for your dog...dont wait.

Don't you have an after hours Vet clinic? Doesn't sound like you should wait on this one. Did you explain this to the Vet's office? I can't believe they did not tell you to bring him right in!
