I installed a new stove pipe about a month ago and this weekend I went to light it and it was so clogged with creosote the smoke wouldnt go up the pipe. Now I had a pipe in there for 10 years and never had that problem. I am guessing it might be the kindling i am burning. It is cedar shakes that I tore off my house when we redid the siding this past summer. I know you not suppose to burn pine and cedar is a pine however these cedar shakes have been on my house since the 1930's maybe longer. Could that be the problem?

I have a 1992-1994 Briggs & Stratton 3.75 hp pushmower that the revs are cycling up and down (every 2 seconds) after about a minute of starting. I've cleaned/replaced air filter, changed spark plug, removed carbon deposits from cyclinder head and replaced head gasket. Any ideas?

How hard would it be to take it apart? Is that a piece that goes bad? Do bearings need servcing? The furnace is about 7 years old.

I need to put a "p-trap" in our washing machine drainage line.I was wondering if it mattered where i put it?? Does it have to be right near the washing machine drain pipe where it enters our basement or can i put the trap on down farther in the middle of the drain pipe before it meets the main sewer drain in the basement?

The reason i'm asking is that it looks like it would be easier for me to put it right in the center of the pipe where theres room to work instead of putting it right where the washing machine drain pipe enters the basement. Can i put it anywhere? Thanks.

to seal all the points of entry, pipes and electrical wiring in your home, do weather stripping around doors and windows, put steel wool in weep holes of brick near soil line, and make sure attic and soffit vents are properly screened? Would you look for a plumber, or who would specialize in this kind of work?

How can you tell the differnce without getting it tested?

Someone told me that if the popcorn texture is not hard i.e softer texture that will crumble without wetting then it should not have asbestos.

Can anyone with expertise tell me how I might be able to tell without getting it lab tested.

I have seen some popcorn ceiling and mine looks different, as it is not hard it just like styrafoam

thanks

Hi there,

I have bought a portable air conditioner that has a window kit (am renting, so can't cut holes in walls etc). The problem I have is that the only "window" in my bedroom is actually two doors. I can keep one closed and open one, but don't have any idea how to seal off the opening to stop hot air entering. Would LOVE some advise.

the electric/gas company switched the gas water heaters out for our entire apartement/townhouse community this past year, and put in these new, smaller, and less-efficient ones. The old ones held 60 gallons of water, and used a norml amount of gas and electric to run them, but these new ones are only 40 gallons, and cost twice as much to run. On the EnergyStar yellow label, this new one's about a quarter inch from the WORST POSSIBLE RATING. Even in the summer, the gas bill doubled, and this winter's going to SUCK, but we can't change it out because we rent. Do the water heater insulation wraps work at all, or are we just screwed?

Roof, electrical and plumbing seem fine. No signs of water/fire/termite damage. Large stone foundation seems fine. Do not see any mold. Fireplaces have not been filled in and are listed as working. I am no expert tho and am afraid that I might miss something important.

I have a rental property which used to have excellent water pressure. My tenant told me a few weeks ago that the downstaris bathroom was having some water pressure problems, but everything was fine upstairs. A few days she called to tell me that this is now affecting the whole house. There is almost no pressure at any tap in the house, either hot or cold water. There does not appear to be a leak anywhere. What could be causing this, and does anyone have any idea how much it might cost to fix. The home was built in 1976 in Middle TN, and is on a slab foundation. Thanks for any help.

The water travels down the pipe to the first floor, it sounds like the pvc pipe is hitting the wall studs. The noise is not from the fill valve or the incoming water pipe.
